We have court for everything else. We need a system set up for chronic pain sufferers where they can present their case with whatever evidence they have.

As in criminal court, chronic pain sufferers should be considered as innocently suffering pain until scientifically proven otherwise.

The jobs of the lawyers, judge and jury would be much the same as it is in criminal court.

My opinion is that there is an "aroma" of voodoo, *****-doctorism ...etc... that goes along with medical professionals who use their gut feeling to determine whether or not people whose claim of pain is either true or false.

A famous person once stated that it is better a thousand guilty men be set free to insure that no innocent man suffer unjustly.

Folks, we are sending our brave sons and daughters out to fight and police in this opinion driven world so that innocent people do not suffer. Why should they be treated like a junky or drug seeker when they want relief from their own suffering when they are home?

If a few people slip through and get pain medication when it is not justified, SO WHAT?? Who in the hell in our legislation has the right to make laws that cause people in pain to continue suffering when there is a solution? Doctors should not be afraid to practice medicine.

Doctors should provide adequate pain relief to patients and treat them with respect when the possibility of their pain is real. It is reasonable for doctors to require their patients to submit to drug screening and have accurate records of all medications dispensed to them. That is necessary for a comprehensive treatment plan.

I think we deserve the same rights as murderers and thieves.

If a doctor does not want to render services to a person claiming to suffer, they should be able to prove beyond a reasonable doubt, with scientific evidence that the complaint is not valid.

As this world advances in technology, it is important to focus more attention on techniques for physicians to be able to measure pain levels in their patients that is physically accurate.

Until we reach that point, people who complain of pain should be made comfortable.

I agree Wes1212...I dont think anyone should be denied a few pain meds untill tests can be ordered and run if the doc suspects the pain isnt legit. But dont make the patient suffer while the tests are ordered because I know at times it can takes a couple months to get in for ultrasounds and MRI's at least here in Canada it can.
In my case I had all the Xrays and stuff already done and I was on 10 years of NSAID therapy with my Gp who I have known 22 years. So I didnt have a problem when the NSAIDS ruined my stomach so bad I ended up on meds for that too.
There is also pain that cant be seen on any test I hear Docs have touble dxing Fibromyalgia or however you spell it. But it is real as any other pain. Doctors should be able to spot drug seeking behaviour as well. Because it does happen. I just hope they will stop denying or making legit pain patients feel like they are addicts and they suffer needlessly because they are afraid to ask for something they feel might work. Aahh, here in lies the problem with some chronic pain patients folks. What happens when a diagnosis can’t be found for the cause of pain? I have suffered for 3 years with chronic pelvic pain! I have had two exploratory surgeries to find the cause. I have been subjected to a horrific medication called Lupron at twice the dose for 2 years. It’s a type of chemotherapy. Lupron solved the pelvic pain only while I was on it. The doctors highly suspected endometriosis especially since the Lupron worked. Now that they didn’t see any endometriosis during surgery, does that mean me or anyone like me literary dying for a diagnosis deserves any less treatment because it can’t be proven by a doctor? The pain is real, I have physical proof that something is wrong when I am off Lupron (72 day periods, curled into a fetal position), but as far as doctors and tests go, the reason for the PAIN is unclear!

Great post,Wes,it,s too bad it has to be this way,but until somebody gets the DEA off these dr.,s backs and let them practice the medicine,only a few brave docs will risk Freely Rxing Opiates.The docs that will are over-run with patients that travel,sometimes,hundreds of miles to get to the way of relief from daily onslaught of terrible,debilitating pain.You can,t blame these docs when their very jobs are on the line cause they write what they do on those little pads that help so many,so much,only to be told they are dispensing controlled substances in an unsafe or impractical way by some Federal ---hole that,s tryin to practice medicine for the docs.Why not be on the streets or lookin at the borders to the South where the real drugs problems are.Or is it easier(and safer) to push around meek Physicians tryin to uphold the oath they took to ease humanities suffering.Granted,there are some real butt-head docs out there,but there,s also a whole lot of darn good ones that would Rx what their patients needed,if they did,nt have to constantly be worried about losing their licenses.That,s a bad no-win situation.Jack B.
