Loss of privacy. - Pain Management Message Board

I suppose I shouldn't be suprised by this, but it is a little disconcerting.

I went to Walmart today to fill my Oxycontin presciption. I had a Drs. appointment last month and filled my script at the hospital pharmacy.So today I'm in Walmart and they say I can't fill my script till at least the 26th, because that's when I filled it at the hospital pharmacy. Granted I had a valid prescription. All I wanted to do is fill it today to save from having to go into town this weekend,(Memorial Day). I've been a customer at this Walmart for years, they know I'm not going out to sell my extras or something.What's a little scary is that Walmart even knew I had filled a script somewhere else. Is there no privacy anymore? Does Walmart know all of our medical info now? I've got enough medicine to last, that's not the problem.But, geez,it's no wonder people gets annoyed. Anyone else been told they can't fill their Oxy early?

If you have insurance that is probably why the walmart knows when you filled the last script. other wise i don't think we are under that much scrutiny yet......but it is possible. I am interested to know if you have insurance for the meds.

You do have another problem. Now this may not be the case in the state where you live. But here in Idaho you have to feel a schedule#2 control substance in 7 days from the time it was written or else it's no good. you will have to get another script. It doesn't suprise me that you had a problem. if you have insurance they some time don't allow early refills until you are only with-in a couple days from the time of the month that you last had it filled. They are even tougher on schedule 2s. I hope this helps...

I get my scripts filled at wal-mart and they are very strict with DEA policy adherance.If you do have insurance,I,m sure that,s why it was refused.If you don,t have any,I,d like a job app.from wherever it is that you work,if you can afford to pay for Oxy out-of-pocket!(just kidding)If I ain,t mistaken,I believe most places are able to see on their computer if you,ve had a C-2 scrip filled anywhere else in the past 90 days or something like that.It,s not a matter of privacy,it,s a matter of legal adherance.Jack B.

i dont know what authority pharmacy's have in sharing medical information about patients in a network.

it makes sense that they should have some--as long as they are under the same rules of information sharing as the rest of the medical community.
