methadone - Pain Management Message Board

I went to see my pm. dr. today and he put me on methadone 5mg
twice a day i took my first dose and got very sick (vomiting)
for about fifteen minutes has anyone else experienced this

Oh my goodness, I was given Methadone for pain to but I haven't taken it yet because I have heard it makes you sick ( throwing up) and also gain weight after a while of taking it and very tired. I am suppose to take 5mg in am and 5mg in pm I haven't taken it yet because I am scared to so I have been just taking my vicodin which I find works great but doesn't last long enough. Well I'll be watching your post and see if anyone gives you any advice on it. Hope you feel better soon. Blessings, Rosebud54

Hey there and welcome to the board. I just got done posting to Roses question in regards to this med. Yes nausea is a side effect of this med in the begining. Take it very slowly. I would call the doctor about this happening right off the bat and they should be able to give you someting for this side effect. If not here is a suggestion , try breaking the tabs in half and taking them this way 4 times a day instead until you get use to this meds and it's side effects. This is a very potent narcotic pain med and should be taken very slowly in the begining. Don't be scared just treat this med with respect. It has been a great med for me and others here that take it. Again try breaking the tabs in half and taking it 1/2 tab 4 times a day and see if that helps. this meds builds up in your system. Again you may want to call and ask your doctor about something for this side effect. Take good care. And keep posting...

Yes I agree completely with Matt, that does sound like a good idea to do and yes call your doctor always on any side effects that are bad. I am a bit scared to try it but am leaning towards to trying it, so keep posting ,it helps us all. Take Care & God Bless, Rose
