should i just go to the er?? - Pain Management Message Board

i have now been two days with a really bad migraine but this time its very painful and i have been vomiting so much,i have taken my imitrex and ive been taking 800mg ibuprofen.i also take dhea as a daily supp.this headache is so much worse than they usually are and i cant get it to go away at all.should i just go to the er,my dr is not in today,and they arent returning my calls.what would they do in the er can they help??thanx all ,,blanka

Ive been through this before yes usually th er will help. For me they gave me a demerol shot and a script for percocet just let them know the meds that dont work

thanks so much for the reply,i think i will go as soon as my husband comes home.i am really afraid from this i keep thinking maybe im having a stroke of something.i have never been so afrad of my headache before.,again thanks for your kind and speedy reply,its nice to know that someone out there has been through this as well....blanka

I too suffer from migraines, they have basically ruined my life! Its always best to go get checked, (have an mri or cat) to rule out things, as headaches are NOTHING to mess around with! I can relate to your pain and for me sometimes the Imitrex or Zomig will work and other times they won't. You are very limited to how much you can take too, I can only take 2 in 24 hrs. I hope you have decided to go to the ER, its usually a long wait, but you will feel better when you leave. I can't believe your doctors office never called back (whether he was in or not), to give you guidance on what to do. Use your own judgement, you know yourself better than anyone, I would go. Please let us know how you are doing.

thanks for the replys,i just returned from my dr office they finally returned my calls,and i was given a shot of phenergen for nausia and a script for lorcet,for the throbbing searing pain in my head,and yes i have had 3 mris and a few ct scans,i have had so so many tests.i was diagnosed in july2002 for my migraines.i have tried many meds to control them ,but they keep getting worse,and none af the triptipans have helped me a great deal.i no longer drive because of my headaches.they run in cyles,and i will get them for a few months then they will go away for a couple of months then they come back with a vengence.i know it seems that this post should be on the headache board.but it seems like i get more information and help here.also i think i will have to try to look into some sort of long term management for this ,today really freaked me out because the headache was so so bad,and i have this terrible fear of having a stroke.because of headasche i know it sounds crazy ,but i always think about it,so i guess as the dr told me there is no cure for migraines and we can just try to live it day bye day,any way thanx again and sorry it is such a long post,,,,,blanka
