To Everybody talking about weight gain from Methdaone... - Pain Management Message Board

Let me first off say, I can hardly believe so many people on this board are on Methadone. I think Methadone is FANTASTIC for pain, and needs to be looked at, in that manor instead of some opiate withdrawl B/S. Fighting opiates w/ opiates. Sounds rediculous, but for it's pain killing qualites, I can say this...after years of pain, it gave my mother back to me! Thank GOD! But I'm reading so many threads about 'will methadone make me fat' NO!!!! It alone will not make you FAT! how ridiculous. BUT...it does make you HUNGARY AND EAT AND EAT AND then EAT some more. So THATS why you've prob. heard that you gain weight. Well you will, but it's not from water retention or something crazy like that. It's simply just that you really have to watch your eating. Esp. sweets...omg. There IS something about opiates and hungar, but w/ methadone, it's to the 10X power. LOL, so watch yourselves

i have been on methadone since 12-02 again and Igained 50 # but not from trhe methadone, You are right about the sweets craving but I blame my weight gain on neurontiin And trying to quit smoking, The combination of the two is why I gained so much weight, but methadopne alone (best pain killer I've ever had ) did not put the weight on me, withdrawl is the only scary thing but I plan to be on it until they fix my back thanks for your input, Goog luck and GOD bless
