Post new member and need help

hello everyone, just a little intro about myself. I have endmetriosis which was diagnoised almost 15 years ago .i am now 39 years old. since this tyime i have had five laparoscopy's and four laparotomy's for this condition and for a rare pelvic tumor. Due to these surgies i am now left with extensive pelvic adhesions. through all the pain i have endured over these years I have never been prescribed pain medications. My last surgery was for extensive bowel adhesions. My doctor felt this surgery would help with the pain I was having. But after this surgery I felt no relief from fron the daily severe pelvic pain. She referred me to my local pain management center. The doctor there prescibed neurontin. I had a bad reaction to this medicine and discontinued it. I wasn't to happy with this center so I never went back. Saw my primary and she prescribed Ultram. This drug helped a little and I continued to take this for the next 7 months. Over the past 4 months it has not helped at all. Did some research on my own for a pelvic pain doctor in pain management. Found a wonderful doctor at a well known hospital in Boston. I have seen him 2 times now but he has only given me pamelor 10 mg at bedtime and will slowly increase the dose. This pain has effected all aspects of my life. Sometimes I don,t even know how I get through the days with this pain. They have asked me several times abouth my feelings on narcotics. I said I was willing to try anything for some pain relief. I need something but I,am not sure how to ask. Now for my question. Does pain management have a certain protocal they must follow before prescribing narcotics. Do they try everything else before stronger meds? sorry so long!

I hope you don't fall into a nest of doctors like I have here. I sincerely believe they all belong to some sort of sadomasochism club.

Hi there sorry to hear about your pain you are in. I too have had endmetriosis and it is no fun at all. Ended up with a hysterectomy at the age of 30. I do think the doctors have to know how the pain afects your daily life, depression, daily activities ect.
I wish you luck and get back in to see your doc asap.

Chronic pain from Tendentious in right elbow 1996, left elbow 1998, shoulder pain within that time, neck pain the hole time.
My job at Safeway ended in Jan of 99, they said due to lack of work for me. They could not make a job for me, so I was on my own. No Insurance, no money, no hope. I have used everything from expensive ointments to magnets nothing would help.
Docs would not give pain meds because they are additive even though I was in chronic pain. Could not take the pain anymore Jan. 2003. No work no money the pain just kept getting worse.
I was very depressed and ready to step infront of a big truck to run me over. I really gave up on any hope to control the pain til a freind took me by the hand to help me get the help I needed.
Was told by welfare to run up $2500. in ER bills to get covarage for myself, so that is where the help started, now I had to find a doc who would listen that is not easy, ER docs will not just give out pain meds, "med addicts". But got lucky found on doc in the ER that did listen and gave me hope and would see me.
I suggest to anyone out there look for the younger docs that will help for chronic pain.
Found out through MRI's I have degenerative arthritis in my neck, shoulders and arms on both sides. Nerve damage in right arm due to surgery in right elbow. Now am seeing a PM doc whom I do not care for but will see tomorrow about my break through pain. No more PM doc back to my reg doc. She put me on vicodin 3 x a day if needed for BT pain.
Have a good pain free day

just wanted to let you know that hysterectomy is not an option for me. Have seen many doctors who say that they would not even attempt surgery of any kind on me due to such high risks of bowel injury. Even my pain management doctor say that surgery of any kind would not improve my pain. He said it's like a viscious cycle to remove adhesions, they always return. So I guess I am left with trying to just get by. I do see pm doctor again in 3 weeks. He did also mention that if medication does not work there is a procedure called a plexus block. Not sure about this though. It's comforting to know I am not alone (although I would'nt wish pain on my worst enemy) in this world of chronic pain. Thanks for taking the time to respond.
