Duragesic patch - Pain Management Message Board

I have been seeing alot of posts about it and was wondering if it something a doctor is more likely to prescribe. My doctor won't prescribe Oxycontin or Dilaudid because she says they are too addictive, but I was wondering if I should mention this to her. If it's "too addictive", forget it though. I wonder if someone forgot to tell her that this lousy morphine she prescribed for me is addictive, too.

Hello and Good Morning

Well I have been on Duragesic Patch for almost 6 months. My Dr only had to increase to get to the proper dosing, and since that has been done I haven't had to increase it at all. I am given BT meds but I don't have to take too much of it..I have never had to put on Patch early or say more than one patch..

My Dr told me when he put me on this medication. That there are less side effects, and less likely to be abused (taken more than prescribed) I think the Patch is wonderful..Just put a patch on and leave it on for 3 days, on the fourth day remove the old one and replace it. And that's about it. I really like the idea that I don't have to take so many pills. I am grateful for this wonderful type of pain managment. It works for me..It is something that you may want to research a little more and then mentioned it to your DR I don't know what your Chronic ********plaints are, so if the Patch would be a good medicine for you or not would be a good question to ask your Dr. I hope this helped you some.

Sonya, I haven't even said good night yet, but good morning to you! My problem is a ruptured L5-S1 disc. Thanks for your advice, I will look into it and ask her about it on Monday when I'm supposed to call her back and tell her how I'm feeling.

Hi 4mykids,

Yeah, it's certainly odd that your doc is giving you morphine (I'm assuming you're taking MSContin), yet won't RX OxyContin or Dilauded because she feels they're too addictive. That makes NO sense at all. I mean c'mon, they're all addictive. And though I've never used the Duragesic Patch, I feel safe in telling you that if she feels that way about the oxy & dil, she won't RX the Patch either, as I understand that to be one of the most powerfuly forms of reliever (well gee, it is straight fentynal into your system after all

I don't mean to sound like I've become an employee for the makers of Methadone or anything (you'd understand if you've read my recent posts), if you're on something long acting anyway and you feel the morphine doesn't work that well, meth is certainly another option to bring up to the doc. One plus is it has a slow tolerance rate, so you won't continually have to go up in dosage as quickly. Good luck
