Post sick and Neuseas..............

First of all i would like to appoligize if i offend anyone here with this subject, But i really need some help here..

I use to have bad side effects with my oral meds before i had this new pump i now have implanted..

But for the last 3 weeks i have still felt slightly sick But the worse thing is at least one time out of each week i wake up or it just comes on with EXCRUCIATING PAINS all down my left side of ribs from just under the breast down towards my waist and this radiates through to my back, i cannot get no relief untill about and hr after i have been sick which i might add is loads, I then seem to fetch up everything i have eaten the day before and this is the most puzzling it is undigested it looks just like it did when i had eaten it so all night it as just been sitting there not going anywhere, SORRY for being so graphic..

Just wondering if anyone had any ideas..As this Morning i went to 'Er' i was so scared but after 1 hour of waiting after i checked in i discharged myself coz of course i had been sick at home and now the pains were dimminishing..

I will be fetching this up with my consultant who put in the pump!

Love Tiddgys xx

Hi Tiddgys, What level was the catheter placed intrathecally, Is your pump set to deliver a bvolus dose at certain times of day and vccan you relate the problem to the bolus settings? Just some thoughts. IF the IT cath was placed high you may be describing the route the cath takes to get to your spine. If that's the case you may have an infection from the placement of the pump." I know, the last thing you want to hear after a long titration to reach a comfy level"

It would require some blood work and some type of scan to determine if it's a pocket infection or an infection along the route of the cath. I don't mean to scare you, just some things to ask your pump doc about.
Dye can be run through the pump to determine if there is a kink in the cath or the cath has become dislodged from it's selected area of placement.

A scan to rule out pocket infection is another thought. Just throwing some stuff against the wall to give you some things to talk to your doc about.
Hope your feeling better soon, Shore

Hiya Shore..
In answer to your question do i get a blous Dose, No i don't it is justa steady amount over 24 hrs..

The pain i get in my back is all over one half and that is the same on my front too! It does seem strange that it is on the same side as the pump though..

Mo, thanks for your concern it goes along way..

I will defenantly be fetching this up at my next appointment, Hoefully for now i am over it and it won't bother me again for a while..

This episode as scared me and made me feel very fragile..

Love Tiddgys xx

Hi Tiddgys, Sunshine!

Ohhhh! I'm so sorry you are feeling this bad. I tend to agree with Shore that maybe there is an infection going on around the pump. I know infections can cause increased pain and nausea so it would make sense.

Perhaps you need to give your dr. a call now and not wait til your next appt. If it is an infection, then the sooner it's treated, the quicker you'll feel better. You don't want to ignore signs of an infection. And I think, as does Shore, that a scan would be an excellent idea.

I wish you were feeling better my friend. I'm sorry this has put a damper on your pain control. But, please, let the dr. know what's going on. If you can't keep food down, then you will quickly become dehydrated and that will only add to your problems.

Know that I'm here for you, dear. Let me know what the dr. says. As always, you are in my prayers. Your pal, Linda
