Abdominal Adhesions

Anyone out there have abdominal Adhesions, I have roughly 5 surgeries because of adhesions now that I have had to surgeries in the last two years and that I have gained 40 pounds I have pain in my right side and lower and upper back and at times it is hard to breathe it hurts when I ride or sit or stand or just walking to long, I have underwent several test on my stomach and other areas spent over 5000.00 and have been out of work since august 2010, I have pain that shots down my legs and I hate even being around people but they keep saying that they do not cause pain, is there anybody out there going through the same thing. I do not have any female organs anymore and I am almost 50 years I thought my life would be a little smooth sailing.

Re: Abdominal Adhesions

I spent the entire year of 2010 fighting for relief from undiagnosed endometriosis and adhesion's from a 20 year old emergency surgery I had for a ruptured ectopic pregnancy, in which my right ovary was removed.

I would have bouts of a very distinctive pain which I could never explain collectively. It never seemed to have any obvious connection to my cycle, whether before, during or after. When it would come, it could last for hours, days, and eventually it never stopped...

I spent lots of time in the ER doubled over in pain, a hospitalization of 10 days, still no diagnosis.

The problem for me was that I am inoperable, due to some terrible health issues that no doctor wanted to touch without a 10 foot pole, much less operated on!

This situation was ruining my life. Finally my cardiologist sent me over to a gynecologist that he knew, and boy was she a pistol. Imagine looking over the stirrups to see Judy Judy, looking down her nose at you!

Oh, I have just been called away for a bit...I will continue this asap. Hang in there, I understand.

Re: Abdominal Adhesions

continued...

My only relief came from pain medication, and the pain was seriously affecting my blood pressure, which is a serious problem for me. I was sent to a pain specialist to control the pain, as well as put into a medically induced menopause.

At this date, I have been free of bleeding for two months, with the pain still there. Thankfully I have the support of all my doctors, my family and friends. My plan is to have this behind me at the same time next year. Cramming years of peri-menopause into weeks and months is no picnic, but it is offering me relief, coupled with the pain medication, acupuncture, massage, tens unit, relaxation techniques and a positive attitude is enough to keep me in the game of life, without pain most of the time.

I hope my experience helps you in any way... The best to you.

Re: Abdominal Adhesions

I have been dealing wih pelvic adhesions for almost a year and a half. I had surgery in November of 2009...I went in for a partial hysterectomy. With in 2-3 months of that surgery I was experiencing a tugging or pulling pain on my left side, I felt like I was carrying a bowling ball in my pelvic area, I was having trouble with my bowels, and a burning sharp pain in my upper left thigh. After 3 months of trying different medication with no relief my dr decided to go back "have a look" and what was supposed to be a laprascopic procedure turned into another open surgery in July of 2010. Exactly 3 weeks after that surgery I began to have those same symptoms. I was referred to a pain clinic (which was a joke) and now I know that I need to have another surgery, but my dr won't operate on me again. I am so frustrated......does anyone have any suggestions on different treatments or any other information?

Thanks for the help,
Renea

Re: Abdominal Adhesions

So there seems to be a few of us here at this time, all battling this right now. Since my last post, my pain has recurred, out of the blue. This usually happens in the last week of so of my 3 month shot of depo provera, but it is still a month away.

I have always felt my organs are stuck together, but without any chance for surgery or even a laproscopic, we will never know. At this point, I am thinking my only chance at being pain free is to add pain medication, even though my medication is already really strong.

This is a tough disease, and there are no easy answers. I am sorry for what everyone is going through.

Re: Abdominal Adhesions

I have had ahesion since 93 and had surgery for a tubal and found them and twice more after that, however the doctor will not do the surgery now and it appears I have adhesion of my left ovary and bladder and into the deep nerves causing the pain into my thigh. My doctor is choosing to the treat the pain since its increasing when I would ovulate and continues for a full three week period with one week where its tolerable with pain meds. I am on Estrogen Birth Control Bills (I just have ovaries) so I have not gone through metapause yet, using hot and cold compresses to the abdomin and most likely I may be put on some type of Antidepressant (for some reason it has a side affect that helps with the pain in these cases) or a narcotic pain pill for sleep at night. Like you my pain has prevented me from working since May 2010 and its in the left ovarian, bladder and into the lower left back area and doing things like raising my voice, laughing, sneezing, coughing, twisting, getting out of bed, standing up straight, just sitting and the pain is just aweful during the three weeks. I have applied for Social Security Disability so I will see how that goes but the more surgery you have the more adhesions happen. There is a new PT treatment called WURN you can try but my insurance won't cover it and frankly, if someone touches my stomach to massage it I will not be responsible for my reaction. Good Luck and you are not alone in this.
