Chronic Pain patient with dislocated knee NO ONE WILL TREAT ME!!!

I NEED help ASAP~I am going to lose it, i CURRENTLY have a dislocated knee and it has been this way for over a month! I couldn't bend it until earlier, with the help of a yoga band i bent my knee & noticed my bone sticking out to the side, it isn't torn through the skin, but it would be obvious to anybody, that is isn't right! I know i need to get it taken care of asap, BUT i have gone to the ER twice, the 1st time was 3/14 and the "Dr" there told me what was obviously known...That my knee&ankle were swollen. Any idiot can see that, and that is why i was there, that being sd, i told him i wanted bloodwork, which came up ok & that was that...After a few days the swelling went down, but it still hurt, i have a HIGH pain threshhold (apparently, since i have had a dislocated knee for this long! Also, i just learned how 2 deal w/excruciating pain due to my 6 grade 5 torn discs.) but the other night it was unbearable & i could hear the bones grinding, called my primary Dr who sd go to the ER (My PM Dr would be the 1st to see, but i CANNOT get past his secretary, plus they DO NOT call you back&i lost my health insurance due to a mistake she made.) I went back to the ER and i will say with 100% certainty, i will NEVER go to an ER again~Not in Ohio! The "Dr" (wow...i cannot believe this "man" is a Dr! this supposed healthcare provider~I don't know how he holds a job?!? I can't be the only person 2 see what i saw!) arrogantly walked in the room&kinda raised his voice and said "WHAT?!?" it got silent, i was waiting for him 2 talk to me, like he was finishing up another conversation b4 he walked in...Nope, that was his sympathetic, "hello, what seems to be the problem?!?" so i told him i couldn't bend my knee or barely walk on it and that i was there 2 weeks ago and still haven't been seen (which you r supposed to have a checkup w/in 48hrs! But no one will see me w/out insurance, not to mention i couldn't pay for my RX's either.) and he replied with, what do you want me to do, what r u doing here? AND "what did you bang ur knee on b4 u came here?!?" ~I am soooooooo naive!!! I said, no, it's injured from a car accident, it comes&goes, but never thisw bad...the he repeated it & i knew what he meant, but shock took over!!! He continued to bash me, he continued with, have u ever even had an xray??? I don't see the point of anymore pointless, unnessesary radiation for you and you're already on...(he named the meds i told them i take) and finished with "what else do you want to add to your list?!? Cuz i'm not giving you anything, maybe if ur lucky, a shot to slightly take the "edge off!" I corrected him&sd i had a discogram & told him my injuries&he wouldn't believe me, then called me a drugseeker!!! but it turned into a challenge or bet for him when i sd look at my discogram report, so he hollered to someone in the hall to give me a urine test&xray and nothing more!!!
I took a minute or 2 to absorb *** just happened, realizing what had just happened is my WORST fear, i had 2 get out of there, i was alone, being called a liar & bawling to the point of hyperventalating! The nurse asked if i was leaving from afar&i just yelled down to her that the Dr just called me a drug addict...I cannot believe this has happened, it set me back 1+ years that i had been working on accepting my injuries, i have been crying since, literally...and that was monday night. While i was typing this, my PM Dr office's billing dept called & i told her what happened&mentioned that i have a bone bulging out the side of my knee...She sd my PM wouldn't be the one 2 see me for that & that she will call me back...that was at 2:32...so 45 minutes ago! Looks like i just have to "accept" the fact that i have a dislocated knee! I have 3 children, the youngest is almost 3, i was barely making it thru life w/out the knee situation. I do get depressed and feel so helpless, worthless, a huge burden and just a flat out piece of crap mother who cannot even bathe my 3 yr old!!! I haven't since she was 6mos old, i missed out on sooooo much with them because of this completely avoidable car accident~an irresponsible adult ripped my life away from my kids, husband, parents, friends and who i used to be.
How am i left to suffer??? A stray animal gets better care than i do! I went from feeling worthless to off the radar! WHY won't anybody help me?!?

Re: Chronic Pain patient with dislocated knee NO ONE WILL TREAT ME!!!

I'm sorry that you are hurting but I have to ask how you are able to walk with a dislocated knee for the last two weeks? Who exactly told you that it was dislocated? Have you had xrays or other diagnostic testing to confirm this diagnosis? Blood work isn't going to confirm a dislocated knee.
The ER is to treat emergencies, not for treatment of non emergencies. Why didn't you follow up with an orthoped if your knee and ankle were so swollen? They are the doctors who would treat those problems. At best, the ER is only going to splint the injury and then refer you to the orthopod, just as your PM doctor isn't going to treat it either. That's not his job. His job is to treat chronic pain, not acute injuries.
As to the 2nd ER doctor, I'm sorry that you were treated that way but he really can't do much for you that wasn't done the first time you were there. He isn't an orthopedic doctor and won't usually treat or reduce a dislocation because he can cause other injuries unless it is obviously dislocated and then they usually call in the correct type of doctor.
The ER isn't going to treat any back problems either, especially since if you had a discogram, you had to have seen a doctor for your back. They are going to refer you back to the doctor who did that test for treatment.
Anyway, if I were you, I would go back to see the orthoped that the hospital must've referred you to the first time you were there and have him treat the knee and ankle problems.
Who ever did your discogram is who you need to see for your back problems. And your PM doctor is there to treat your chronic pain, not your acute pain, from your knee. That's why his office told you that he won't see you for the knee injury. It's not within the scope of his practice.
I wish you the best of luck, but you do need to see the right doctors for the right things and not rely on the ER to handle problems that need to be seen by your specialists.

Re: Chronic Pain patient with dislocated knee NO ONE WILL TREAT ME!!!

I'm so sorry about the pain and shabby care you're experiencing. I also suffer from knee problems and totally understand how much pain you're in. I'm a little confused, why didn't the ER Doctor put your knee back into place? I can't imagine walking around weeks with my knee dislocated. When my knee goes out I am usually able to put it back into place myself. I have had to seek medical attention though a couple of times when it was too painful to get back in on my own. But, I can't imagine a responsible physician allowing you leave the ER without at least putting your knee back in its socket and bracing your leg. There is so much danger with with knee dislocations, partial bone can break off and dislocations have to be viewed VERY seriously. So, even if you have to go to a different ER, you need to be seen and your knee needs to be popped back and your knee braced. You also need an MRI to make sure a piece of bone hasn't broken off. This serious and can't be taken lightly. You also need to be able to follow-up with a skilled orthopedic specialist that specializes in knee related issues.

You are in my thoughts, keep us posted.

Re: Chronic Pain patient with dislocated knee NO ONE WILL TREAT ME!!!

Thank you for calling it like you see it!!! That is exactly why no one will help me, i KNOW i need specialists, my PM dr is a specialist in treatment of my back, he has performed surgeries on my back, as far as my knee, i NEED a referral~thats just it, i don't expect an ER to do anything except what they are supposed to do~help temporarily and refer me, which they haven't done. The Dr there (neither time) never referred anyone&sd to follow up w/my primary dr, so my primary tells me to go to the ER...I don't go there by choice, im being tossed around...Ive never had a problem when i had insurance(up until last month)
I'm 99.99% sure it is dislocated, when i bent my knee&saw the bone sticking out to the side, i sent my sister & my dad a pic & my dad having dislocated his knee many times said, how the heck did you dislocate your knee? and my sister is a nurse who runs nursing homes (also sees it often enough.) came over cuz she didn't believe the picture was my knee, she wanted to relocate it, but i coudn't let her.
I haven't been walking on it, i use crutches if i have to get up and i braced it w/a support brace.

Re: Chronic Pain patient with dislocated knee NO ONE WILL TREAT ME!!!

Ibuprofen 600mg (three of the 200mg OTC tablets) four times a day, with meals and at bedtime

Buy a knee support or a compression bandage to give your knee some support

See a doctor, a different doctor if the current one isnt cutting it.

Dont go back to the ER - see your regular doctor at a schedualed appointment

Re: Chronic Pain patient with dislocated knee NO ONE WILL TREAT ME!!!

Try calling your GP and requesting referrals to the doctors that I suggested. One to an orthopod to see you about the knee and ankle and one for the doctor who did your discogram so that you can be seen for that.
Your GP should be able to give you some names and phone numbers. In fact, you may not even have to see the GP, just try calling the office and asking them for the names and contact information for those type of doctors. The office staff should be able to take care of it.
