Lortab to Fentanyl

Using 120-150mg (12to15 -10mg tabs daily) of Lortab and have 75mcg/hr patch of Fentanyl and I want to try the patch but kind of scared because not sure if it's too big of a jump? My mom just passed from cancer and I have her patches. Any suggestions? Being that Fentanyl is the strongest pain med will it give me the same feeling like taking 3/10mg Lortab?
Thanks!

Re: Lortab to Fentanyl

Did your doctor prescribe these patches for you, or are they ones that are left over from your mother?

If they are your mothers, DO NOT USE THEM, you seriously are risking death, it is a huge jump from what you are taking, and death from respiratory failiure is a real possability.

Given the amount of Lortab you are taking, it would make a lot of sense for you to be on a long acting pain med, see your doctor and ask him/her. Oxycontin, MS Contin, Opana and methadone are all likely candidates. A long acting antiinflamatory (eg Mobic) would boost the releif you get.

If your doctor prescribed the patches, call him and check that the strength is correct before you use one, just to be safe. Again, if these patches were prescribed for someone else, DONT USE THEM

Re: Lortab to Fentanyl

Jonnstar is correct,
Do not use anyone elses medications under any circumstances. That dosage is way too high (4-6x) for you and was not prescribed for you. You have a high chance of respiratory depression if you take that dose.

Re: Lortab to Fentanyl

You're both correct - it was her meds not mine, I just thought I would try it and see if it works and then ask the Dr. for it. I hate spending the money for the Dr. visit and medication only to find out it doesn't work (I don't have health insurance so it becomes costly). I just hate to throw away a good medication. I'm not a doctor but I thought that since I'm on such a high dose of Hydros it would be about the same. Thank you for your imput.

Re: Lortab to Fentanyl

PLEASE don't do that, as you could end up dead. I'm so very sorry for your loss, and I'm sure that you are dealing with so much. Make an appointment with your doctor, and tell him that your pain is not under control. Do you see a PM doctor? Does he know your current dose of medication?

Be completely honest with him. It's SO NOT worth it to try those patches, or any other medication that is not yours! It's really not.

Please keep us updated.
