RSI Thumb injury. Recovery Time?

Its been hurting for like 4 months now. I am only 19 and I have thumbs of a 60year old. The picture shows where the pain is. Got it from playing too much xbox, but havent played since January. I got a doctor to check if it was gamekeepers thumb AND ITS NOT THAT. Its stable.

how long till this heals?

What was the doc's diagnosis?

If it's any kind of regular strain, at your age no more than six weeks -- but you're going to need to lay off the gaming during recovery. (CoD Black Ops is rubbish anyway :-) )

If it really is RSI, it's a much bigger deal and you should be thinking about a hand specialist. And you really must keep off the gaming for a while. (In fact, if it's RSI you may have to keep off any activity involving rapid repeated movements of your hand ... )

Caveat: I'm a real doctor, not a medical doctor.

Diagnosis was just that its not gamekeepers thumb, just RSI or tendonitis, I had a sports specialist take a quick look at it while he was treating something else. I now have no more insurance since I just turned 19 I was referred to a hand specialist, but couldnt go.

Its been MONTHS! I am just going to take Aleve, since it helps while I am on it. I take 2 in the morning and 2 at night. I stopped using my thumb and I wear a splint while I sleep and when I am home

Just FYI..You can now get covered under your parent's plan until the age of 26...This is law now for all states...

It doesn't matter whether you are living with them, married, or in school..

This way you can see a specialist if needed...

Good luck...

Re: RSI Thumb injury. Recovery Time?

I actually thought I had bilateral thumb arthritis but cervical spine testing showed the surprising result of bilateral carpal tunnel syndrome. So I had both hands done (carpal tunnel release). Left is good but right still has some pain, but being my dominant hand I'm not surprised.

picture shows where the pain comes from...Pain is just in both THUMBS, I had a physical therapist take a look at my hands and doesnt think its carpal tunnel

Re: RSI Thumb injury. Recovery Time?

Hopefully either your Mom or Dad with their job can get that insurance plan and add you to this...Or if you aren't a student...and you are working full time to get your own...

But at least for now you can wear the brace and cut out all activities (gaming/computer) where you use your thumb..

I wish you luck..
