From Methadone to Opana ,,scared !

Hi Folks I have been worried about my transfering from methadone to this Opana . I have beeen doing great on 60mgs of methadone for 11 years ,,Now my doc retired and the new one will not write my methadone! He says it is unsafe and refuses to refill it next month! I have been healthy and do not want . So can anyone tell me what to expect the first few days of no methadone and only opana..I am horrified of a withdraw coming .Morphine scares me also. thanks ,Judon

Judon

You should fine this funny. 4 months ago my PM Dr. took me off of opana er 40mg. 2 X a day to put me on methadone 20mg. 3 X a day. I had no withdraws what so every. 40mg. is the highest you can get in the opana er. Reason for the change was I had been taking the opana for 18 months and it was not working so well anymore. Also I was getting some very bad headaches and not able to get very much sleep at night but had a hard time staying awake in the day time due to foggy head or as my wife says air head.

One thing about the opana is when you are going to eat you either take the pills 2 hrs. before or 2hrs after your meal. Other wise your food will taste really bad. I always did it 2 hrs after eating.

I prefer the methadone over the opana er. It seem to work better on my pain by lasting longer and my food taste better.

Good luck with the opana.

Re: From Methadone to Opana ,,scared !

I hope that this Dr. knows how to titrate you from one to the other. I think Methadone has a long half life and stays in your system for a long time. My pain specialist says Methadone is 6 times stronger than morphine, but I don't know anything about opana. I have been on Methadone for about 8 or 9 yrs. And after my last huge surgery they had a hard time figuring out the trick to keeping my pain under control.Without overdosing me!Methadone was for my baseline pain.(at 90mlgs.) But there was a way and they found the formula. It was a pain team. I just think therer's a drug formula used to go from one drug to another without side effects. Good Luck! I hope this didn't confuse you.
