Since 2002 I have had 2 bulging disc, sciactic nerve and leg pain. The dr put me on Lorcettes for pain. It dulled it enough for me cope and motivate. I had no problems with him, he knew me no problems. I moved out of state so I needed another dr. This dr after a copy of mris and x rays and a very stern speech that he would call me in for pill counts or drug tests, gave me a script for the lorcettes. We got along great. He retired and another dr took over, same scenario, got pills, did fine. This dr moved to another town too far away and before she left she told me the dr taking over would not want to give me the pills, but I went to him, I knew I was doing right, didnt worry. First visit he demanded I take drug test. It was going to cost 60.00 to take so I said let me see if I can pay office visit and test. In short, I took test. Other scripts I am on is lasix 40 mgs in morning. I also drink a herbal tea and have for years. I was up at 6 am took my lorcette and water pills and drank 2 cups tea plus pepsi on my way to drs. Appt was at 10:30, almost noon for test. I had peed 3 times in his office. My urine was clear as water. Still didnt worry. Within next week Im told Im not using my pills properly and no longer will be seen by him. I went to his office that day. He wouldnt even see me. His nurse who was a snoot woman says our tests r not wrong. I told her it was this time. I went and paid for a hair follicle test on my own. It showed I had taken my pills. (as needed that was the script I usually did take 11/2 to 2 aday) My results were 1047 pg/mg. They still would not see me, said they didnt know how I got that test. I switched drs and started getting my pills again, he sent my records with this in it and she stopped. Im getting so frustrated from being accused of things I did not do, its not even the pills anymore it is the principal of it. I went to my disability hearing and my lawyer says this was going to hurt me if I just didnt say something like I made a mistake. This made me so mad and I told him I would not say I did something I did not do. He tried to talk with me for awhile and gave up. Needless to say I did get my ssd and didnt have to lie to do it. That felt good. What I want to know what else can I do. I just want this corrected for my future, who knows what this could affect....Thank You in advance for ur comments
Sorry you had to deal with this. In short, yes things can happen sometimes to give a false negative on a drug test, and for the doctor to not allow for a re-test and drop you right there. Best thing I think you can do is try to explain everything to a new doctor (including the test you got on your own, that your doctor wouldn't do a re-test themselves, etc), and hope for the best. Maybe that would help any appeal you do for disability too. Unfortunately one bad note from a doctor can follow you forever. I think this is a worst fear of a lot of patients on pain meds. Best wishes.

This is not an unusual thing unfortunately. Sometimes the tests they do in-house are not all that accurate. Your's probably showed either too much or the med or not enough of the med. You say that you went and got your own test, how did you do that exactly? Most labs won't just do a private test without a Dr.'s prescription, and most Dr.'s aren't going to take your private test as a real test because it was not ordered by a Dr. Having went out and gotten it yourself, there's no way to prove that it's a real certified test result.
Once you have a "bad" test in your file and you've been dismissed, it follows you everywhere you go. All you can do is try and explain it to a new doc, but they will always pass your records on, and the records will always have this information in it. There are Dr.s who will give you a 2nd chance based on the fact that in all of your years of pain management that was the only "blip". The problem is in finding that Dr., you just have to keep looking until you find one.
There's nothing you can do to force a Dr. to correct your file once they've tested you and gotten a "bad" result. Even when most docs retest off site and get a "pure" result they still don't correct the file or reinstate the patient. Once they get a glimmer of impropriety they don't take any chances.
Here in my state we have private testing facilities. They r the same companies used by drs and hospitals. I wanted the original company from the dr, but wouldnt do it, so I got another one from another city about 30 miles away, the next day. Told them what I wanted, got it done that day. Had it witnessed it was my hair dated and sealed. Did not need script for it. They were the ones that told me if I only paid dr 60 bucks for test, I didnt get a good one. They said to get accurate reading especially on opiuds not opiates with script as needed, u need better test for urine test which is very expensive. Im going by what they told me and what I know for a fact.....Thanks
I don't disagree with you, a real test can cost upwards of $1200.00 bucks. I'm just telling you what your doc will argue and what new docs will say is the reason they won't take you on as a patient. It's not fair, it's not right, but unfortunately there's not a whole lot the patient can do about it....except try to find a doc who will work with them in spite of what the old doc said.
I totally agree and thats exactly what the drs do. Its just disheartening to know your innocent and cant do a thing about it. But thanks for your comments.
