pain pump placement & abdominal hernia?

Hi, I'm due to have a pain pump (after many years of back pain & various spinal surgeries.) The problem is that I have a large abdominal incisional hernia, there's some confusion going on at the moment as to if the hernia will need to be fixed before the surgery to place the pump, the pain management clinic have said they think it could be dangerous if a hernia is present, I'm due to see the consultant in a couple if weeks time, I just wondered if anyone has heard of this before please?
