I am not sure on the conversion, your doctor will know or find out. However, I do have experience with methedone vs other narcotics both long and short acting. I haven't been this happy with my pain management since I started down this road 12 yrs ago. I am able to do things that I haven't been able to do in years. I am starting college soon to get a BA in psychology. I want to get off disability and go back to work.
I keep at pain level of 3 to 5 depending on the level of activity. I never have the ups and downs that I did before. And I very, very rarely have to take anything for breakthrough pain.
The one thing I did have when I first started was that towards the end of the day when I sat down to relax I would nod off. That really upset me because the pain relief was wonderful, but I couldn't be nodding off like that. My poor kids would go crazy. But it turned out that we just had to tweak my schedule and dosage, of course with doctors supervision.
I have had one dosage increase since I started and that was after about a year. I have been on the same dose now for almost 2 years and don"t see a need for change anytime soon.
Not everyone responds the same, but if your doctor has suggested it, I would give it a try. Hope everything works out for you.
Take care
