Re: Neruopthic paon

I am not sure on the conversion, your doctor will know or find out. However, I do have experience with methedone vs other narcotics both long and short acting. I haven't been this happy with my pain management since I started down this road 12 yrs ago. I am able to do things that I haven't been able to do in years. I am starting college soon to get a BA in psychology. I want to get off disability and go back to work.
I keep at pain level of 3 to 5 depending on the level of activity. I never have the ups and downs that I did before. And I very, very rarely have to take anything for breakthrough pain.
The one thing I did have when I first started was that towards the end of the day when I sat down to relax I would nod off. That really upset me because the pain relief was wonderful, but I couldn't be nodding off like that. My poor kids would go crazy. But it turned out that we just had to tweak my schedule and dosage, of course with doctors supervision.
I have had one dosage increase since I started and that was after about a year. I have been on the same dose now for almost 2 years and don"t see a need for change anytime soon.
Not everyone responds the same, but if your doctor has suggested it, I would give it a try. Hope everything works out for you.

Take care

Re: Neruopthic paon

Joe,
Your doctor is the best and only person who should be giving you any directions about what the dosage/conversion would be for your switch from Oxyneo to methadone.
Methadone has a very, very long half life, and it works really well for many people when it is used to treat chronic pain so you should do well with it. However do make sure to follow the dosing directions of your prescribing physician because it can be dangerous if someone takes more than they are prescribed due to it's long half life..
