So I went to see my GP after work and she was livid. She actually called the other PM doctor. He called her back and told her that it sounded like a spinal headache.... She also asked him why I was released from treatment and he said it looked like I was med seeking from other doctors.. She told him that she approved the two times because the pm doctor couldn't get me in... And they could so there were no other doctors on the registry. The PM dr said I could come in to see a doctor tomorrow ( she reminded him I've only seen the nurse for over a year)... I spoke to her and decided I am going to take a recommendation to a different PM and she will hold me over for the month. I was so happy she believed me, I am so lucky to have her. I am in so much pain from the procedure and it took a call from another doctor to call me back. Sad.

I want to thank you guys for the advice it helped me a lot.

Re: Please need support and advice

It really sucks that a few bad apples can spoil it all for honest people in pain. A few months ago, I got my prescription filled at my normal pharmacy, but I was shorted over ten pills. The pharmacist was distracted by a lady demanding he give her her extra-strength Oxycontin, and in dealing with her, he apparently lost count (and of course, I didn't notice it until it was too late). I am not usually one to assume, but this lady just screamed 'seeker' to me. When I ran out of meds 5 days early, I was stumped. I went to me PM and told him that I had not deviated from the med plan, explained the story, and wasn't truly believed until the month after when I had one left and was a day over the expiration of the rx (30 day cycle). Anyhow, the point of my rambling, it sucks that some make all of us suspect. I hate it, but it goes with pain mgt.
I am happy that everything was solved for you!

Gemini, you're right... My pcp said the gov is coming down hard on drs who rx narcotics which doesn't help. It's so upsetting to be accused or viewed as a criminal when your just trying to live your life without severe pain. I just think these doctors need to remember that they are there to help people. I was thinking, even if someone was a drug addict why wouldn't they want to try to get them help instead of treating them like crap. Those people are sick too in a different way. I just don't understand why some of these people become doctors.

I know a girl who is a narc addict, and she became one without a pain condition. It ruined her life. She lost her kids (she abandoned them to move to Florida and wonders why her ex wont let her see them). She will never be a teacher, like she'd dreamed of since she was a little girl. She is lost in life with very little direction. She also has some serious mental issues that she refuses to get treated because a 'doc' told her she had PTSD (even though she has never had anything happen to warrant that dx). The icing on the cake, she stole from my husband (who was on meds for his knees) and lied to our faces about her addiction. It is people like that who spoil the whole bunch and make it to where the honest, pain-dealing-with people have to struggle to function. It geodes my goat that she can scam medical professionals into giving her rxs, but I have to struggle with my pain and hide my meds from my friends and family. I love her, don't get me wrong, but it really angers me that she does what she does, ya know?

Re: Please need support and advice

Interesting I was actually thinking the same thing. I made an honest mistake which almost cost me my pain relief and my reputation meanwhile there are people who are on so many different drugs from different doctors with no problems. I don't know what the answer is... This is a big problem now and the people with letigimit pain are the ones who will suffer the most. I'm just going to be extra careful now.

Re: Please need support and advice

alex12(and Gemini)

alex I am so glad you will not suffer for the time being-but get everything on track with a proper empathetic PM specialist asap-thank GOD for your GP-she is wonderful.

These types of people who are so desperate to get high, even turn their backs on their own children breaks my heart and I just can't get my head rapped around that.

These are very dangerous people(person) and I would avoid/break off all contact asap=I would also say to draw attention away from my self that I now go to church and believe in holistic healing and all medicines are sin.,etc(forgive me-I am not meaning to use religion in a warped way)but to say ANYTHING to get this person to lose interest in you and the possibility of scamming any of your much needed medication. This person may have been a dear friend and you stated you feel sorry for her, but people addicted(not DEPENDANT-very,very different)to these powerful medications can be detrimental to your health, know what I mean? You must do everything you can to protect yourself and family.

This is why I don't tell a sole I take any type of prescription medication and we have a well hidden(you could practically use in a bank-lol)heavy safe.

good luck, take care, be careful.

I agree... Thank God I don't have anybody close to me like that. I also don't tell anyone I am in pain management, except my husband and parents because they know the pain I am in and understand why I can't function without some relief; as far as friends I don't say anything I don't talk about my health much because I'm sure they will judge. I work with a lot of white collar professionals who are quick to judge. My hr knows I was in a bad car accident and I get physical therapy etc... But I don't disclose any of my meds. I don't function any different on them especially after almost two years the only thing they do is allow me to work with minimal pain. Even at that I am at a computer all day sitting and by the end of the day even my medication doesn't help as my head feels like it is going to topple off my neck due to the weight. Usually I just want to make it through the day. I'm thinking of working part time... Wish I didn't need the money so bad it sounds crazy but sitting and working on a computer all day is very painfully for my head and neck. Most people don't get it since I'm not doing manual labor but it's excruciating. Sorry I'm rambling. Ty all again.

Re: Please need support and advice

The girl isn't aware that I am have meds; she believes my doc is treating me in non-narcotic ways. She also doesn't come into my home if she shows up unannounced (if we have notice, things get hidden because my daughter is on meds for add/adhd that she would swipe). But, just not allowing her into the home or on the property would tip her off because she does know about my pain and the history.

She claims she is clean, and has been for six months, but she's claimed that before. She looks better, cleaner and has put weight on, but I still don't trust her as far as I can throw her. We, my family and I, deal with her on a very thin line and she isn't invited over anymore. Once you lie once and steal once, we begin to distance ourselves. She isn't the type of person you just break contact with, because she can be very nasty when she is 'wronged.' She's done some down-right horrible things to people and I really don't want that drama.

Re: Please need support and advice

Alex, I know how you feel about the work issue. I sit at a desk all day as well and by the time I'm done for the day the pain meds don't really help all that much, in my case its my back though. Best of luck to you! And I hope everyone is able to have a good day today!

Re: Please need support and advice

Hi alex, If i were you i would have gone back to that pain dr & explained that i am paying to see him not a nurse, (who im sure put a little bug in his ear about the 10 day meds from PCP & suggested your release from his care) because i am absolutely terrified when i have to see new pain dr. So, you are very courageous, imo to now see a new dr. When i had to see a new PM i had to have some records from my old pm & MRI reports to get approval to even make an appointment. I hope that everything works out for you & if i were you i would hold on to your primary dr she is awesome.

Re: Please need support and advice

Ty so much.. I was so scared! It's horrible that we have to be made to feel that way. I just knew I didn't do anything wrong and even if they "suspected" they were wrong and could not back up their suspicions. Even when I told the nurse to look at my urine tests because they are perfectly fine, my levels are perfect... She looked and said "oh well the urine wouldn't tell me if you took one extra pill." She was really reaching, like a power trip, as if she enjoyed trying to catch people. It's so sad because she created so much anxiety and undo stress when her job is supposed to be helping people. I feel like accusing a patient of something like that is so serious that they should be 100% certain and have documents to back it up, especially if the patient has been with the practice a while. They could ruin someone's life if they are relying on their medication to function.

Re: Please need support and advice

Yes alex many many people rely on their meds but even more need their drs too to function & to live, i couldnt stand to be alive because this one pain I have is "incompatible with being alive" & it already feels terrible to me to feel like my life is in their hands & then to be treated untrustworthy when i had so much trust in the dr, it would break my heart after it scared me to death! I hope that you find a great new pm & get better too!
