Xanax

how do you get your doctor to prescribe you stuff like Xanax for panic attacks?
i'm on 500mg wellbutrin and 20 mg lexapro daily for severe depression and anxiety, as well as take amidrine for stress head aches, i used to be on zoloft but took myself off of it because i felt like i was drugged all the time.

i have ADD but doctors wont give me a prescription for that because im already on so many meds.

i want something for my anxiety b/c my attacks are at thier worst when im trying to go to sleep and im in my bed with nothing but my thoughts running through my head obsessing over every little detail and analyzing it over and over again that i'll send myself into a crying frenzy and eventually... like by the time i'm supposed to wake up.... have worn myself out that i fall asleep.

i'm afraid to ask my doctor for anything because i feel like i'm always in her office crying about some problem and that she'll start to think im a hypochondriac (one of those people that always thinks they're sick when there's nothing wrong with them)

Re: Xanax

The only advice I can give you is to talk to your Doctor about it.
If you feel what you are on isn't helping you, then this is something she should know.

When I was having attacks, Xanax was the only thing that worked for me.
I never had a problem with it....I was on a VERY low dose and never took more...most of the time in fact I took less.
But some people came become dependent or tolorant of it in a very short time.

It's like everything, what works for some with no problem, isn't for everyone.

Re: Xanax

panic attacks and OCD should be reduced or stopped by antidepressants so maybe you need to try some others

ask doc to prescribe xanax, some docs are very against all xanax type meds , that is benzos, if so probably best to try another doc, the older docs are generally less antibenzo

Re: Xanax

That's a lot of Wellbutrin, an antidepressant that's useless against anxiety to begin with. There's people who even complain that Wellbutrin increases their anxiety. If the problem is giving you too many drugs (which sounds very reasonable), you could ask your doctor to drop the Wellbutrin and give you Xanax instead.

However, it is best to take Xanax only for a short period, or only as needed instead of on a regular basis.

i think you are over medicated. it sounds like your doctors are just trying to duct tape over the problem instead of really finding the root cause. you shouldn't have to take a different medication to override a side effect of another, and then take another to counter act the first one. if all of this medication is through your GP, i think you should really be getting it from a psyciatrist (sp?) i know, what good am i if i can't spell it....anyway you are on a buch of stuff that may be wrong for your condition. i think you should ask for a referral and get a second opinion of this medication from a specialist. xanax is great, but i can't imagine taking it with everything you are on. i wish i was more helpful. please keep in touch......
