I'm not convinced this is due to my anxiety disorder because even when relaxed or on a benzo I still have the same symptoms. Also I notice that upon awakening recently I have severe headaches and stiffness in my arms. It is also marked by tingling in my face, excessive hunger and frequent yawning.
I don't have any thyroid or blood problems.
Exactly, and that is making me helpless. I feel that if I have a SERIOUS illness it will not be taken seriously because of my anxiety disorder. I saw a doctor yesterday who said it is probably a mild case of fibromylagia. But I've been reading a lot of posts here from others with this mental illness who say they suffer from bodily aches and pains as well, so it could just be that.
Anyone have any ideas? |
Dear Natasha1981,
I can assure you that even your clothes at times can be sore to your body from panic disorder. Benzo or not, and you may not be on a high enough dosage to be relaxed as you think. These things come and go for weeks at a time and then just dissapear as quickly as they came on. Sometimes with panic disorder you get not siezures but muscle spasms which I do that require an anti-convulsant medication or a benzo like Klonopin that has that property in it already. Stiffness can effect any part of your body. I get it all the time. I can't give you a specific part of the body, because it get it anywhere it feels like being. Sometimes I just start limping on one leg and the next time it may be the other. And I have gotten sore areas like you stated for weeks, just like you. Headaches just go along with this and they very where they are located and sometimes are sharp and others feel deep and dull. I am taking xanax around the clock, with an anti-depressant and a anti-convulsant mediction. Fibromylagia was one of my first reseaches in my quest to find an answer other then panic disorder as you are doing. First off, you need to have the symptoms for three months or more and the sore spots are specific areas or vital points on the body. They say you have to have 11 of 18 of these areas sore to the touch when pressed on. Some people can have less but since you have the typical tingling in the face, I would think that after you search out every possible disorder, you will find that it still comes back to panic disorder because it can mimic any of the others and all of them at the same time. You can research Fibromylagia and the pressure points are shown and test yourself. Even if you find that these are sore when you test them, that still does not verify this as Fibromylagia because these of course are vital points of the body which are areas that are naturally sensative to pain. I guess what I am trying to say here is that you should rule out with every logical test, illnesses that could be causing this especially and MRI if you have not had one of the head, neck and spine. At least the head and neck, but I think you will find it to be panic disorder and your Doctor in my opinion is being a little hasty in throwing out a "mild case of Fibromylagia" which sounds like to me that he doesn't have a clue about Fibromylagia or panic disorder. I would not worry so much about this but you might consider seeing another Doctor, not to add another one, but because your current one does not seem to be competant from what you have said. And by the way, I have seen 11 Specialist for this, researched to the end of the internet and it always boils down to panic disorder. I think you need to up your medication or get on the right ones. You are not alone and these attacks come in different forms that sometimes never actually have an attack but have symptoms like you are having. Medications only ease them, not stop them all the time. Sometimes you just can't stop this, you just have to deal with it. But you must have the right medicaiton or level of. I hope you get past this soon.
Sincerely,
Sickman
