New guy here

Hey everyone , hows it going ? I was diagnosed with panic disorder about a year ago and was put on paxil cr 12.5 mg's. The first few weeks were terrible. Then my life was pretty good. However, back in january i took myself off of paxil thinkin it would be ok, which I was for a while. But these past few weeks have been nothing but bad. I just got back on it a few days ago and I know the first couple of weeks are worse. But I just hope this kicks in soon.

I've had 2 big attacks the past 3 weeks where i feel like I am coming out of my body, heart beating past, short breath, tingly head, nausea, thinking im dying; that sort of thing. And everyday I just dont really feel like I am real.

Does anyone else experience these feelings? I can't help but to think about this stuff all the time, which I know can bring em on. But anyways, Im just waiting for the med to take effect for a 2nd time around.

Also, what exactly does xanax do? Is it temp relief for panic?

thanks for anyone who reads this

Welcome Scott!

Yes, Xanex will work immediatly to stop the attack. I have heard that if you put it under your tongue it works even faster. I think there are many people on here who have had good success using that. I was given Klonopin, which takes longer to act, but also stops the attacks while I wait for my Paxil to kick in.

I'm curious, are the dosages different between the cr and the regular because the CR is stronger? Hope you feel better soon. Don't be afraid to use the Xanex; they can give quick relief so that you can stop fearing them faster.

Re: New guy here

All i pretty much know is that the "CR" stands for controlled release and acts when needed, or something like that. Its just a newer version from what i have been told.

I would be more than afraid to take Xanax if I weren't already addicted. Granted, it stops panic attacks almost instantly when you put it under your tongue but it is one of the most addicting drugs that there is on the market today.

IMHO I would rather go through heroin withdrawls again than Xanax. Why start? It is such a strange drug that it actually sets you up for futher attacks. I just finished reading The Ashton manual for bezodiazipine withdrawls. I am ready. I am sick of panic attacks. Had I never been put on Prozac, for depression, which I quit, I would have never have taken Xanax, which they gave me to counteract the side effects of Prozac. Xanax should be banned IMHO.

Re: New guy here

Welcome Scott,

When I was having attacks I had every symptom that you describe.
The part where you said that you don't feel like you're real, really struck a cord with me because that's exactly how I used to describe it to people.
At the time I didn't know it had a name.

I'm one of the ones that Martica mentioned that have had great success with Xanax.
I took a very low dose everyday for seven years and had no problems at all.
I also weaned off of it without any problems at all.
I never became dependent on or tolorant to it.
My Doctor told me that just because the bottle said I could take "X" number of MG's a day that didn't mean I HAD to take that much, he said less was better but to never take more and I never did.
I tired other medication and other non-medication routes to try and deal with my panic disorder and nothing else worked for me.
Xanax gave me my life back when nothing else did.

Everyone will react differently to every medication, or treatment.
What works for one, won't work for all.
The thing that causes problems or doesn't work for one person may be the ONLY thing that works for someone else.
