What exactly could this be????

Hi everyone. If anyone can add insight it would be greatly appreciated. My boyfriend has all these symptoms that are inhibiting his daily life, and I want to help him. He went to the doc and doc said he's fine. (Just did physical). He is so nervous all the time (though I do not believe this is anxiety related, where he has been that way as long as he can remember), he has tunnel vision really bad to the point where he doesn't think he should drive anymore. Weird blood pressure, when he went to the doctors, the first time his blood pressure was taken it was extremely high. Then the doc told him to relax, and his blood pressure was normal. Trouble falling asleep at night (without drinking, and even then he can't fall asleep unless he's really drunk, but he doesn't drink every night). And chest pains. Oh- and he had lyme disease when he was 3 years old (i don't know, maybe related?) Thanks!

Re: What exactly could this be????

Hi,
all his problems, including the tunnel vision, may be caused by stress and anxiety.
it will help if he learns to relax and learn different stress coping methods

get a book on home massage as this helps a lot

Re: What exactly could this be????

I have had the blood pressure thing happen to me twice and it is from my anxiety. Also I did not drive for a year because I was scared to.

Re: What exactly could this be????

I have had these same problems for the past few months. Sometimes when I get really upset and shaky I need to be left alone to calm done on my own. My friends of family often try to comfort me during my attacks, but it only makes me feel more anxoius and nervous. Other people may be different but I'm just letting you know because my friends think I am being rude when I ask to be left alone, but sometimes Ireally need it to calm down. Also when I get nervous it helps when I take deep breaths and only think about breathing in and out. It is also supposed to help if you exhale completely. If you are understanding and don't get upset when your b-friend is nervousit will help him a lot because smetimes I make my problem worse by worrying about friends and family being mad at me because of my problems. To fall asleep I force myself to keep my mind blank. Everytime a thought comes into my head I push it out and breathe deeply. Just when I start to get really frustrated that it's not working I fall asleep. I also stay on the computer late which makes me sleepy. I hope this helps. If I think of anything else I'll let you know.

Re: What exactly could this be????

I got it all, my BP always goes up when I go to the Dr-not really high but high enough. I also have insomnia-since I was about 10. I have finally gotten to a point now that I can fall asleep without too much trouble(although staying asleep is a problem).
For the sleeping issues, he has to get up early every morning and get into a nightly routine-it is very important!! If he still can't fall asleep-then get up earlier the next morning. I have had nights where I couldn't sleep so had to force myself to stay up all night and the next day just so I would be able to sleep that night.
A good nights sleep may very well do wonders for his nervousness.
Keep busy, don't let this take control of his life, if he feels he is unfit to drive then he shouldn't, but he should be careful that he does not fall into a trap where he begins to go out less and less. This can lead to agoraphobia. Tell him to keep a log of everything from eating to sleeping to excercising and how he is feeling. It may be something he is eating, allergies can cause nervousness, among other things. Is he still nervous when he is busy or at certain times of the day? Worrying about not being able to sleep was a big stresser for me.
There are other things it could be but they are pretty classic anxiety symptoms.
Hope this helps a bit.
Abby
