Classes of antidepressants - Panic Disorders Message Board

I have been taking ssri's or prozac type meds for years now. The one im currently on is lexapro. But now i take a whole different kind of med called pamelar which is a tricyclic antidepressant and as a class, is older than the ssri's. I take lexapro in the morning and pamelar at night.

I seem to be getting my best results at night with the pamelar and i was thinking about adding another dose to my daily routine and without the lexapro. Has anyone else been prescribed a tricyclic antidepressant? How long have you taken it? Do you see any benefits from it? Very rareley to i see tricyclic antidepressant mentioned on this board and im just curious if other members have had any experience with this type of med. Any advice or comments would be great.

yes pamelor and the other tricyclics are still around but never promoted to docs as there isnt much money to be made selling them, the patents have all run out and cheap generics are avalilable, pharmacies can still get them, sometimes on special order

the tricyclics were the first class of antidepressants shown effective against panic attacks and anxiety by klein 30 years ago

in theory the tricyclics have more side effects, but seem less likely to cause sexual problems
