sleeping pills for anxiety

This is probobly going to sound completely nuts, but i was thinking....why couldn't you take sleeping pills for anxiety? I'm taking ativans and they feel almost exactly like sleeping pills. It might not be safe but a small dosage might do the trick...hmm

I wouldn't do that if I was you. Try and work out your problem with a different way. If you start taking pills for sleeping you will get addicted and then it will be too difficult to stop taking them. Are you seeing any therapist about your problem?

Re: sleeping pills for anxiety

Jessica,

I don't think sleeping pills have the same ingredients as benzo's(Ativan) do. Like for instance, the KLonopin I am on, which is also a benzo has something in it to stop seizures. It helps me a lot because I shake uncontrollably after a panic attack. You may want to ask your doctor before attempting this, expecially if your anxiety level is high.

Re: sleeping pills for anxiety

there are some benzo sleeping pills and in small doses they seem to work OK as daytime tranquillisers

Wink Re: sleeping pills for anxiety

Hi, when I feel like I am going to panic or have an anxiety attack, (especially at work) I always carry an Ambien around with me, and I will just break off a small piece of that (maybe 1/4 of a tablet), and they always calm me down quickly. Hope this helps.
