I just got put on xanax xr today (1 mg). I don't much about it so I would like some knowledge about it. Does it work? How long does it take to start working? etc..
Thanks

Re: Xanax Xr - Just got it...

its a long acting valium type med and very effective against panic attacks

it takes a while to start acting so should be taken in advance of any situation likely to cause a panic attack

ordinary xanax starts acting quicker so can be dissolved under the tongue at the start of a panic attack for fast relief, ordinary is also lots cheaper, try to get some and take both

Ok, you say to take both...Can you take both, I already have some xanax (.5) left over. In the event i start having a panic attack is it ok to take a regular xanax on top of xanax xr? Of course not at the same time.

Re: Xanax Xr - Just got it...

panic attack sufferers often take both together, take the ER daily and carry a few ordinary tablets with you when out so you can disolve 1 under the tongue if a panic attack hits you, 2 of the .5 tabs may be needed for a severe panic attack
so you can now get out there, go places and do things, which will make you like yourself more

When you said it takes awhile, does that mean days or weeks?

Re: Xanax Xr - Just got it...

Yeah I'm curious about that too...I mean i can feel it working during the day, cuase im all giggly and stuff and sleepy, but is this the full effect or does it take a week or two to get the best benifits from it. Still wondering about these wierd after affects. Maybe it's me being normal for a change and i forgot what it feels like. i don't know it's wierd. But started 2 days ago and so far so good.
