Running not good for me!

I tried running today to relieve some stress but it seems to have done a number on me. Three hours after I went running my heart rate was around 100BPM. I have had heart racing probs before with anxiety and went to a cardiologist and had many tests done. He found nothing wrong and my doctor thinks its anxiety and gave me xanax and paxil. So anyway today I went to the ER becuase my heart felt like it wouldnt stop racing after I went running. They also found nothing and told me to follow up with my doctor again. So for now on I am only going to be walking. Ill see what my doctor thinks about this. God I hate this anxiety and not knowing if that is for sure the cause of my prob. Thanks for the support everyone.

Re: Running not good for me!

I know exactly what you mean, I've had this for 2 1/2 years or so and although I generally get by, sometimes the physical symptoms are so extreme it's hard to believe there is no underlying physical cause.

My heart rate seems to be a bit fast normally anyway, maybe due to my anxious nature. I guess it's normally around 90 when I'm resting. Fitness is possibly an additional issue as I'm not as fit as I used to be.

Re: Running not good for me!

Running is good exercise. Your heart rate was probably elevated because you're focused and stressed out about it. My suggestion is to stop dwelling on your heart rate. I did the same thing as you and I landed up in the ER with absolutely nothing wrong. I used to take my heart rate ALL OF THE TIME!! Now what's my heart rate?? I don't care anymore because I don't take it and I'm less stressed out about it.

Exactly what I was thinking.

I've done this to myself a few times and I just ride it out. THINK POSITIVE not negative.

Re: Running not good for me!

Well I have good news. I told my doctor about the running problem and he knows exactly the route I ran (becuase he goes there) that elavated my HR for too long. Its a very hilly park and he thinks that I wasnt in good enough shape to be running around there. So he says to stick to flat lands and work my way up too running in hilly areas. Also he said it seems that my heart is very sensitive to stress hormones and thats why my HR has a way of increasing a lot of times. He wants me to keep trying to get in shape but dont push it like I did. Also he said to make sure Im drinking enough before and after I workout . I wasnt really freaking out about the high HR but wanted to know why it happened. However Ill admit when I was in the ER I did get pretty panicky becuase those places arent for me. Well Im not giving into the fear and will try exercising because the benifits will be great.
