I had my first panic attack in November 2005. I never had any problems with anxiety or panic EVER in my entire life prior to this. This came completely out of the blue. About a week prior to it, I had had chest pain and was diagnosed with pericarditis.

I went on to have many more attacks over the course of the month (even after my pericarditis had resolved) and I ended up with a ride to the hospital in an ambulance on one of those occasions.

I felt so out of control.

Lorazepam did not work for me and I would panic right through it. I took about a week's worth of Lexapro and it actually made me worse. I was given Alprazolam and that seemed to work the best. I had to start out taking it several times a day, then after a few weeks, I backed down and would only take it if I felt jittery and an attack coming on.

I haven't had one attack since the middle of December and I haven't taken any medication since then, either.

I realize it may still be early to deem myself cured, but I'm hopeful. Has anyone else ever gotten over panic attacks like that?
