Living with panic disorder Hi everyone. I'm new to this board but not new to this disorder. I have dealt with it for 15 years. I have been able to live happily...got married, had two children, held a job, but now I am having a really bad time. I always thought that antidepressants would help if I needed them but now I'm not so sure. After reading a lot of posts, it looks like they do not work for everyone. That scares me to death. I have been on 30mg of Prozac for two months and it does not stop my panic. Maybe nothing will work for me either. I have coping skills but it still doesn't help my peace of mind. Does that scare anyone else? That nothing will work? I can't stop panicking at the thought. I am VERY depressed over this. I have benzo's but know I can't take them all the time. Thanks, Sandy |
Re: Living with panic disorder I too get scared nothing will work. I also take klonopin (a benzo) and to be honest, I don't even care about becoming dependent on it right now. I just want to feel good while I'm around. That's my attitude lately about it. If it helps, take it. Deal with other stuff as it comes. So if a benzo helps you, go on it regularly. My doc had no problems giving it out to me on a regular basis. He can wean me off of it later, if needed. |
Re: Living with panic disorder I would talk to your doctor about switching meds. If you have been on it for 2 months at 30mg then switching would be my next step. |
Re: Living with panic disorder I would try some form of therapy along with meds even if it is not cbt just so you can learn coping skills to go along with the boost that meds give you. |
Re: Living with panic disorder Aileen-What is tea form excersise? I have never heard of it? How do I find a book on it? |
Re: Living with panic disorder Sandy I hope you saw my last reply and are making progress now:angel: |
Re: Living with panic disorder The tea forms work great but you have to do work on them nearly everyday especially early on to the the benefits. |
Re: Living with panic disorder Sandy I hope you come back and I apologize again for being so late with my other reply:( |
Re: Living with panic disorder Hopefully she tried cbt and it is helping her now. I have seen lots of people stop posting when they feel better so I take an optimistic view when I no longer see people posting any longer, but wish more would come back and share their success stories to encourage others. |
Re: Living with panic disorder As crazy as this may sound, I have found The Tapping Technique very helpful, you can find a few books on it online. I’ve had panic attacks for 8 years. I have only been doing the tapping for a while now. All I know that it helps calm me down a lot. I’ll go from panic to almost calm after a few minutes of tapping. Might as well give it a try. |
Re: Living with panic disorder If the tapping technique works for you keep doing it. There's no arguing with success :) |
Re: Living with panic disorder I agree if the tapping technique is working keep doing it. Everyone is different and some things work for one when they don't for another. Sandy I hope you are well? |
Re: Living with panic disorder My new years resolution is to keep encouraging people to work on their anxiety and panic until t is gone whether it is through cbt, the tapping technique or some other form of therapy and-or meds! |
Re: Living with panic disorder Great new years resolution. I'm here to help in anyway I can too. I'm Panic free now, my anxiety is under control and life is good :D |
