A feeling of being constricted? - Panic Disorders Message Board

Is there a name for this? My brother told me tonite that he's been experiencing feelings where he feels constricted. Wearing a tie (anything around his neck), even his wedding ring, his shoes, etc. This all started about three weeks ago. He said he has all these thoughts, and knows it's probably some sort of an anxiety attack. Our sister died unexpectedly two months ago. I told him stress or an emotional upheaval can cause a lot of things to go wrong in you. He's 51. Is this a specific name for what's going on with him, other than "anxiety or panic attack"? Seems like I've heard of this specific thing happening to others. Thanks.

im sorry to hear about your sister
how old was she? your brother is probably scared and is trying to hold back emotions and when that happens constriction takes place (for me anyway)even my wedding rings and all clothes its a strange trapped feeling

That's it exactly - a trapped feeling. He went to the dr. today and the Dr. said he's probably suffering from depression and anxiety - mainly from the death of my sister. He gave him a mild dose of zoloft. Hopefully, he won't have to stay on it long.

I asked him tonite what was the first trigger three weeks ago. He said (like you) when he couldn't get his wedding ring off. When it became difficult he panicked, and immediately got soap and yanked and pulled until it came off (along with some skin). When he starts thinking about a particular feeling, that's when it takes on a life of it's own and becomes an almost anxiety attack.

Thanks for answering. I'm hoping now that he's seen a dr. it will ease his mind somewhat.
