Need advice!!!!! - Panic Disorders Message Board

Has anyone had luck with zoloft? I mean, I wonder if it is even possible to live a somewhat normal life. I take xanax as needed and I dont have many attacks, but that is because, I dont put myself in those situations. I went on vactation awhile back and hated it! Didnt even want to leave the hotel. I cant stand being out in the heat now because I feel like I will faint and that throws me into a panic attack. I have to be in a/c all the time. Dont enjoys movies, bars etc anymore. I have been told to either stay on xanax or take zoloft. Has anyone actually started to enjoy those things they didnt before? I cant even imagine that. But I have a panic attack if I even take an antibiotic or anything, so I cant even imagine taking zoloft! The xanax gets me thru the situations but I dont enjoy them!

Hey, I don't know much about Zoloft, but am taking Paxil and Ativan as needed. I know what you're going through about not wanting to leave and do ANYTHING - I was in the same situation before I got on Paxil. I really recommend that you try it if you haven't. Also, try reading the book Hope and Help For Your Nerves by Claire Weekes....it totally changed my life!! Now I'm still a little nervous to go places I've never been before, but my life has changed drastically for the better. Good luck to you, and if the Zoloft doesn't work, try asking your doctor for something else so you don't get hooked on the Xanax.

zoloft and paxil are both SSRI antidepressants and if one works for you,it will reduce anxiety and panic attacks better than xanax can, and you should get back to normal
antidepressants must be taken daily and take some weeks to work properly

stay on the xanax as it will reduce any early side effects of the zoloft, both meds go well together

when the zoloft is working, less xanax will be needed.

reading books on recovery from anxiety, stress and panic attacks is also helpful, build up a library of them
