Panic frequency? - Panic Disorders Message Board

Although I was diagnosed as panic disorder last year I didn't have very horrible panic attacks since then. There were intense anxieties every two months around my period, few of them were typical panic attacks. Other than that I was completely well. So when I wanted to take zoloft the anxieties went away. But next time when they came I would have the similar dilemn about taking or not taking. I always told me that I would be fine without it and then several days later the intense anxieties were just gone. I just wonder if I take it can I make the intense anxieties not relapse often? Does anyone have similar experience? The doctor told me to take it when symptoms onset. Does that work?

zoloft and the other antidepressants must be taken every day and dont start working properly for 3 to 8 weeks, they cant just be taken as needed

valium, xanax or similar benzos can be taken only as needed , act quickly and may be better for your anxiety, many younger docs have been brainwashed and wont prescribe them at all, wrongly thinking they are addictive for everyone.
you may need to see an older doc

That is true, a few of my friends have been put on antidepressants for their anxiety. They are taking meds everyday when maybe all they need is something only when they need it. My doctor is female and in her early forties and prescribed low dose xanax for me. She feels at this point I am better off taking something only when I need to. It works for me. The other thing is, I am not depressed just anxious. So why take an antidepressant? bride527
