paxil???? - Panic Disorders Message Board

Hey everyone, I was put on paxil about 2 1/2 months ago and noticed that I gained about 5-6 lbs since then. I have read about many people gaining weight, but am curious as too if it will ever come off!! I know that with some meds, it's impossible to lose the weight that you gain from them, and i'm just wondering if anyone else has been able too. Thanks for your help!!

Hi - I started Paxil CR (12.5 mg)in mid-February and I have noticed in the last week or two that I too have gained weight - 5 pounds! I had heard that the CR (controlled release) shouldn't cause weight gain. So, I'm not sure if it's the medicine or the ice cream I've been enjoying every night, or both!

If Paxil can cause weight gain, why does it?

hey thanks for you reply. i don't know why it causes weight gain...my doctor never told me about this side effect. but if anyone know anything about this - or if it's just temporary let us know!!

some gain weight on these meds, some lose and others stay the same, a few bacome compulsive eaters.

a reduction of anxiety or depression can improve the apetite
eating less fattenng foods avoids weight gain

Hi,
You wont lose the weight until your off the meds, sorry, I was on it for a year just 20mg and I gained 25 to 30lbs and then when I went off I lost it all I am now taking celexa and doing the treadmill ever night so I hope this one does not make me gain the weight!!!! We'll see
