Post can't talk

Hi,
I probably should be posting on the depression board but I can't get on it for some reason...

Anyway, I have anxiety and depression....mostly I think because of my social anxiety...I get really nervous around people, I don't know what to say, and am basically mute...but things have usually been okay around people I know well.
Well, lately things are not okay around people I know either. I don't feel comforatable around ANYONE. Not even my parents, who are extremely easy going and understanding. I never have anything to say and even if I do have something to say, it's so hard for me to get it out.
I feel like such a loser. I tried going to college but the anxiety of people and not being able to talk to anyone was too much. How pathetic is it that I couldn't make it 3 months at college? I feel like a pathetic waste of life. I am always analyzing all of my actions and my thoughts in a way to try to figure out if I'm "normal."
But basically I am depressed because I am pretty much mute and dont really have any friends and feel like I am a waste of my parents money and a waste of a being. I have no interests...
does anyone have advice or feel similarly?

Jamie

Hi Jamie, your problems are common, get some books about overcoming SA, and follow their advice, dont be too proud or stubborn to learn from the books

a med such as paxil may help, see the paxil website for info, try also to get a valium type med to reduce any early side effects from the paxil.

do you have trouble in saying words?

Hi Jamie Don't ever think you're a waste of life!! I've felt that way for a long time too and therapy has helped me understand that these are just feelings--not reality! I was put on paxil a month ago and started therapy and finally I have started to feel like I'm alive! It just takes time and maybe if you talked to a therapist it will help you. I'm going through rough problems with my boyfriend but I'm handling alot better than I would've before! Don't ever let anyone make you feel like your worthless!! Take care and hope you're feeling better soon

hry33-I don't really have trouble saying the words themselves..although lately things come out all jumbled and I get feel stupid in the middle of saying it and just kind of stop talking because I'm not making sense...also, It's just hard to get up the courage to say something...even to someone like my mother...

I have been several medications...lexapro seems to keep the anxiety somewhat under control but I still can't say anything to anyone

Jamie,
Just a few questions... Do you find yourself constantly "editing" the words you want to say before words are ever out of your mouth?

And, if so, do you frequently tell yourself that what you felt like saying was going to sound too corny, or not eloquent enough, or that people would think it sounds silly, etc...?

You are NOT useless. You are NOT a waste.
You ARE precious!

Tatewin
