i know how you feel. i used to get BAD attacks. i would feel great at home, get in the car with my boyfriend, travel 5 miles into town and get an attack. I would also be shouted at "you always do this!!". So we turn around and come back home. I would get soooo frustrated! I also seen a shrink but it didnt do any good what so ever. In fact, he turned to my mother and blamed her for why i was ill!! He said i was too spoilt!!. Anyway, all he wanted to do was put me on more tablets which i refused point blank. I was taking quite enough already.

A shrink would probably prescribe meds that would help you cope with the attacks. But whatever is triggering them would still be there. A counselor or therapist might be more useful if you really want to get to the root of the problem. Some of us are anxiety/depression prone people and we need to learn the ability to keep our anxiety or warped thoughts under control.

Hi,

There are so many who can relate to you. I would definitely talk with your primary doctor. It could very well be depression. He or she can help you make a decision as to what you can do. You might be given a prescription for medication...you may not be.

I would suggest you request to be sent to a psychologist, not a psychiatrist. Personal preference through my experience.

There are also books available on anxiety disorders and cognitive behavioural therapy. If you check them out, it would be supportive to you to see where it can help you or how the symptoms fit into your situation.

I agree with janik, it would be best for you to deal with your issues.

Do it before the how you feel gets the better of you and your relationship. Some people, especially spouses who don't suffer from depression, don't know what to do...so they just get mad because of the frustration.

It's a lot decision making at this time, but take the first step and you'll be on your way to feeling better.

I wish you well,
quincy

Hi Glenda I would definitly recommend a psychologist, I've been seeing one for over a month now and it has helped me so much! Theres a book that's been mentioned before that's very good, it's called Hope and Help for Your Nerves by Claire Weekes. It costs 6.99 at Barnes & Nobles. I'm also on paxil which has helped some but my therapist has been a much greater of a help! Good Luck!
