Post sister having panic help please

Hi there people I have a great sister who has panic attacks. She can't really go places by herself needs someone just about all the time when going out. She is on medication and I was just wondering here what are they really like where you always need people around and never can go places by yourself. Also have to be inside at certain times.

WE do go out on the weekends at times when she comes in but feels anxiety or panic at times. What can I do when I'm always free on the weekends to go places with friends and so on. How do you manage things like this. You have a sister where I don't really want to go there tonight or here because of that problem.
Please help me on this one thanks...

Limeridge, unfortunately until you live through having panic attacks you will never truely understand how the person feels. Many people actually fear different things, but most of the symptoms are the same. How long has she been on meds? Maybe she needs a new type. I know my meds have done wonders for me. Sorry I got off the subject. Anyway, do searches on the web about panic disorder and continue to ask questions and read peoples stories. Though you will not get the full effect of what's going on, you will have an idea. It's a very difficult thing to deal with, especially when know one understands. Please, continue to support her. Though people are generally fine while having an attack and even after one, it's still very frightening. The most important thing to remember is most people prefer not to be alone since they are in fear of dying. I say tell your friends your sister needs you. That's all they need to know. If they are your friends they will be there anyway. Good luck and please keep us posted on how she's doing. You may even consider introducing her to the boards. There is great support and advice given here!

Hi,

You don't mention how old your sister is.

Why not show your sister this website? It's a great place to go for additional support.

Also, hopefully your sister is getting some help from her doctor and a counselor, as well as support from you and your family.

Anxiety disorders are tough for people who DON'T have them to understand, because the person usually looks okay. But they are dealing with quite a lot on the inside. It's hard on your sister, too.

If you are feeling frustrated, think of how SHE must feel. Learning to cope with anxiety is a process, so it takes time and patience. Be there for her to listen and gently encourage her. But it's okay to live your life too, so go out with your friends because that's also important.

I think it's great that you are looking for answers for your sister as well as trying to figure out a better way to be supportive. Good for you!
