Panic Attackers Aren't "Crazy" - Panic Disorders Message Board

I remember years ago when I had my bad bout with panic attacks, I had told two of my friends (big mistake) and they both looked at me like I was crazy.

I started really thinking about panic disorder and have come to reaize that on the most part it is basically just being really really worried about your physical symptoms. Frankly, I don't think that that is "crazy".

Unfortunately, most people out there don't really understand this disorder at all and the stigma seems to exist on this disorder.

I have a few people that think I am crazy, sadly enough one of them is my mom, I am grown now 25 years old and I just try to ignore the ignorant people. nobody really knows what it is like untill they have had this disorder themselves. have a good day!

OH BY THE WAY..WE ARE NOT CRAZY! like you said it is just being worried about our physical symptoms. I totally agree with you.

You're so right, we aren't crazy.
And IMO anyone who thinks we are, or tells us we are doesn't deserve to be in our lives.
I have a Sister that doesn't understand and won't try to understand, so I no longer have anything to do with her.
They way I look at it, she's got a bigger problem than I do.

I mean, to me, "crazy" is psychosis, schizophrenia, sociopathoic behavior, etc. Worrying about one's physical symptoms does not constitute crazy to me.

As a matter of fact, my sister who works in a cardiac care unit told me that MANY MANY patients who have just had cardiac surgery get panic attacks afterwards - probably from just worrying about every little twinge in their chests.
