Anyone heard of this drug??? - Panic Disorders Message Board

Hi! Today I went to see my doc and he prescribed me to take NEURONTIN. Commonly, it is used to treat seizures. However, my doc says it is effective for panic. (which I have a lot of) Anyone have knowledge of this drug in treating anxiety? Please respond and thanks in advance. Cassie

some psychs wont use neurontin for panic attacks, saying it isnt helpful but has been advertised as a cure all without any tests showing its effectiveness

I am on neurotin for a pain condition I have. The only thing it has done for me is make me gain weight.

I am very confused as to what I should do...very anxiety provoking I tell ya!! I wish my doc prescribed another med like klonopin...klonopin just was not working as effectively for me. Sighs! HELP!!

Please be really careful taking Neurontin! I saw a special news program on it, about how all the sales reps were going in to doctor's offices, giving them supposed data on how Neurontin has helped for almost EVERY condition imaginable. These sales reps were telling about how they were acting as medical consultants, telling the docs to prescribe it---to everyone. I used to go on the Spinal Disorders Board about a year ago, before I had my neck surgery, and there were plenty of stories about people having bad reactions to it---and that was when it was being prescribed for something "close" to what it was developed for...
If I were you, I'd tell your doctor you are having a bad reaction to it, and ask to be put on somehing else! But, that's just MY opinion...I just wouldn't want you to be taking a drug for "off-label" uses...
By the way, I saw your post on the hypnosis thread. Did you ever do it? How did it work for you---if you did?
