I've had many angiograms. They are painless! Absolutely painless! My first angiogram took place after I suffered a heart attack when I was thirty-nine. I was rushed to a teaching hospital. twenty years later and I have had several angiograms and seven angioplasties. Angiograms and angioplasties are similar in that both procedures involve a surgeon placing a small tube in an artery. The tube is sent through your body to your heart. When the area to be "investigated" is reached, the surgeon releases a warm liquid that allows him/her to see how much blockage is present in the blood vessel. He/she will ask you to cough so the liquid moves through your artery. The information he/she needs is obtained and photographed. (I have watched the process on the same screen the surgeon is watching.) If necessary, an angioplasty may take place then. This involves sending a stendt thru the tube to your heart opening up the blockage or sending in a baloon to accomplish the same thing. I have had eight angioplasties over the last twenty years. I notice how much better I breathe following an angioplasty. Of course, I don't smoke anymore, either! Good luck. You'll be glad you had the angiogram and the peace of mind it brings. (Please excuse misspelling or other errors.)
