GERD/Throat Problem? - Panic Disorders Message Board

Lately, as I have been experiencing panic attacks and high-stress, my throat has become very raw. Almost like a sore throat but it only seems to hurt on one side when I swallow. Anyone else have this problem? My Dr. thinks I have GERD and once me to take some proton-pump inhibitor medicine. I'd rather try and find some alternative way to take care of the problem. Any suggestions?

GERD causes stomach acid to be forced up towards the throat, burning it

otherwise, anxiety often causes the feeling of a lump in the throat when none is there and swallowing problems

I had the same problem for about a year, took 3 different doctors to figure out it was TMJ (jaw) from stress & me clenching my teeth. It hurt on the soft part of the roof of my mouth, way back, not like a sore throat, but like sore tissue. They kept treating me for throat infections. I also had ear pain, do you have any ear pain with it?

One more thing, mine was only on one side too, the side where I clenched my teeth.

What test can a Dr. perform to insure that the diagnosis of GERD is solid.?
