Just like you I just started the generic prozac. How are you feeling? I noticed you seem to have some of the same side affects I am having. Are you still taking it? I feel kind of blah right now but I havent had a major panic attack, which is really wierd for me because I usually have at least a couple a day. Dont get me wrong I am still highly anxious and wondering when that atack is going to come, but it hasnt yet. I noticed your scared to be on meds just like me. Do you also have a medicine cabinet full of meds you were supposed to take but just kind of stacked up? I'm just going to hang in there and get past these couple or few weeks until the med starts working right. Just wondering how you are doing in all.

Hi dawn, I am also feeling blah. I am very anxious and I know that is normal when taking this med, I haven't had a major panic attack either but I do feel VERY anxious. Are you having trouble sleeping? I am, I will wake up in the middle of the night and feel anxious. I am going to give the med some time, I think that is the best thing to do. I have gotten many meds from my family doc that I haven't taken, they just sit in a drawer, I have always been very scared to take a med but it has goten to a point where it is interfering with my daily life. seems like we have a lot in common. Let's keep eachother posted on how we are doing. I try and keep in mind that these side effects will go away. have a good day.

What do they have you on besides fluoxetine? Whats getting me through it easier is .5 Klonopin in the morning. After taking the morning pill and then waiting 45 minutes I am not scared to take the fluoxetine. Then My doctor just upped the dose of evening Klonopin from .5 to 1 mg Klonopin to calm me down not only is it a benzo but it is a sedative. It is quite common in people with anxiety and panic especially people like us that are scared of meds to give us stuff to calm us down ESPECIALLY in the beginning. But we have to stop doing this to ourselves, the meds will reduce or stop our panic attacks if we give them a chance.

I tried everything else first Zoloft, Paxil, Elavil, Trazodone, Effexor, Celexa and so on, some were intolerable side affects and most I just didnt give a chance.

This is the end of the line for me I am listening to the doctor and cutting it out.

I tried herbology, anxiety books, acupuncture, hypnosis you name it and nothing is working like the meds. I think the prozac/fluoxetine is going to work but I have to stress Its the Klonopin thats making me better able to do it.

Initial agitation of the meds usually lasts no more than two to three weeks.

Wierd dreams are understandable the meds are probably changing the levels of sleep we hit.How bad are they are they bad nightmares?

How are you doing other than that? As far as very anxious what symptoms are you having and what are your concerns.

I might be able to addresss them straight out of some of my books that deal with panic anxiety and all related meds causes and effects.

I'll also look up something on the med if you want me to but I suggest you dont spend your time doing that. As you know we can be great at subconsiously producing symptoms and then throwing ourselves into more panic.

We might be scared of the meds but what scares me more is if I dont give complying with the doctors a chance I might have to live like this. And this is not how I want to live. Statistics are showing everywhere I go whether it be book or websight that 80 to 90 percent of people can overcome this if they comply with treatment. Panic is number one on the list of most curable mental illnesses. But sometimes we need meds as a bridge to get better and make the changes in our lives and how we think before they can slowly wean us off the meds. Typical treatment on average is six months to one year once you feel better. Some longer. So dont think you will be on meds for the rest of your life.

Again to comfort you about the med you are on it was actually approved for use in pediatrics (children) this year. They dont do that with many meds. Most places trying to scare you about this med are trying to sell a natural remedy in its place or they are listing the side affects in the paperwork, which again the drug companies put 95% of that there to cover there buts if those natural events actually do occur so they cant be sued.

I wanted to add one more thing. Just in case you dont want to get another script or cant for something to calm you down. My doctor just today told me it would be ok to take an over the counter sleeping aid. Just ask the pharmasist or your doctor if they think that is ok for you. I dont see why not. I go to drugdigest.com they have check drug interactions there and sleeping pills are ok to take in the evening when taking prozac in the morning. But of course I have to say I am not a doctor bla, blah, blah. But you might want to think about this. After two three days of crappy sleep those over the counter pills have saved me. I know with insomnia your anxiety gets even worse because its harder to think rationally when you are so tired, as if the panic anxiety isnt enough already.
