Question Night time potty training?

Hey everyone! My daughter turned 2 October 5th. We got her some undies (YAY, no more diapers!!!) for her b-day & she has been wearing them since then. She's only had about 3 accidents & that was within the first 2 weeks, she has been doing great since then - she even goes #2 in the potty! At night she wears pull ups, but sometimes when she wakes up they are dry. She sleeps pretty good, almost every night she sleeps right thru from 9-8. I was just wondering when some other people's children started being able to wear undies at night time? She is still in her crib right now, so she isn't expected to get up & go on her own or even just come get us if she has to go. We are hoping to have her in her toddler bed at least by Christmas time. But even if she is in her bed, she would have to know to come get us b/c she doesn't like to pee in the little potty for some reason, she likes us to sit her on the "big girl" toilet! She will only do the #2 in the little potty. This is fine by me, whatever she likes - besides, I figure that sine she follows us in the bathroom & she sees us pee in the big one so she feels she should too! Any thoughts on this?

Thanks!

I would wait until your daughter is in a big bed and able to go to bathroom by herself before I would let her sleep without pullups. If you have your mattress protected with plastic sheet, etc. then you might give her a trial at sleeping in big girl panties. Age 2 is very young to be able and wake up and go to bathroom by herself. Most likely she would have an accident by the time she waked you up and made it to the bathroom. By the time she is 3 years old she will most likely be sleeping all night without having to get up.

I was told by a doctor that a child should not have to go to the bathroom at all at night and for sure not more than once. If they use the bathroom more than that during the night they may have a bladder infection. That being said, both of my children day trained very quickly, but we would still use pull-ups at nap time, bedtime, or if we were going out for a period of time. After awhile I started to notice that the pull-ups were dry all of the time. Both children had accidents at one time or another, but I find that the only time that they had an accident is if I have forgotten to send them to the bathroom right before bed.

We went through a period where we would have to wake my son up and take him to the bathroom when we went to bed. My daughter wets the bed a little more often than my son did(she will be 4 in March). By a little more often I mean that she has wet the bed twice in the last month and I think it is due to it being a little more chaotic before bed with two kids than it was with one. She only wets the bed if she has not gone to the bathroom before bed. She also NEVER wakes up in the night to use the bathroom but always wakes up after she has started wetting the bed.

If you are going to try going without pull-ups I would suggest that any drinks be given at least a 1/2 hour before bedtime(sometimes the kids want a drink after they brush their teeth right before bed, so I give them a mouthful or two of water)and make sure that the child at least try to go to the bathroom even if they went a 1/2 hour earlier.

Good luck!

Hi Tetro, I'm in the same situation. My son will be turning 3 in a couple of days. He is potty trained during the day and through his nap but he's not ready for night time. His diaper is still wet in the morning. We just moved him into his toddler bed (but he hasn't figured out yet that he has the power to get out lol). Sometimes he'll call out and say he has to pee and we bring him during the night, but most of the time he continues to pee in his sleep. We'd like to wake him up during the night to take him to the bathroom but as soon as we wake him he is WIDE awake. And then it's a problem getting him to go to sleep. I really don't think he has a bladder infection though. What we've been doing is cutting back his liquids at night, which hasn't been too difficult. He was using the big sippy cups but he would treat them as if they were bottles....he would just chug and chug it down. I found if I gave him something to drink in a normal cup he would just take sips out of it every now and then.
Anyway, let me know if you figure it all out.
I'm very impressed that your 2 year old is trained! My son took a long time. I hear boys do that though. Duh...no surprise.
Good luck,
Meg
