Today is the last day to enroll in my insurance coverage so I need an answer quick. How old before a baby sees a dentist? I need to know wether or not to elect dental coverage for my baby for this year. He is 4 mths. I heard some people say they should see one as soon as they get their first tooth and others have said by 2 years. old. which one?
I brought my son when he was 2.5 and he already had cavities! My dentist was more than willing to see him but when my son wouldn't stop crying he referred us to a pediatric dentist. Our other son was only 1.5 when he had his first visit. I would recommend starting a baby around 1 years old.
Most dentists won't see them unless they are at least 4 or 5 here. And even before we moved to this state our previous dentist wouldn't see my oldest til he was 4 either. I think unless they have problems and you are making sure their teeth get brushed it is fine. Both of my boys first saw the dentist when they were between 4 and 5 and neither had any cavities or problems once they did get there.
Call your dentist and ask when they'd like to see your child. Mine won't see children until 3 years; however, if I see something I don't like, that's not going to stop me from seeking out a dentist who will see him.
