Our son is 14 and has become very secretive and protective of his privacy, my wife thinks he's masterbating, I'm pretty sure he is. We're not quite sure if we should talk to him about it or not. My wife is very concerned and we're not sure how we should approach this matter. I think I need to talk to him on one hand but on the other hand I'm not sure either. Any one there that may have gone through this, I would appreciate some quidance. Thanks.

I agree. Give him his privacy.

I feel the same. Maybe there would be less teenage pregnancy if parents (not you) would stop telling their kids that it is evil or abnormal.

C'mon, let's be honest, look back and remember when you were a kid...I'd say around 99% of all males masturbate until they die so long as your still capable of course. I also agree with everyone here...absolutely normal behavior.

Re: puberty/masterbation

i think as others have said he needs this part of his life to kinda remain "unknown" to his parents, he may be VERY embarrased if you guys said anything to him and i bet he really just likes thinking that you guys have no idea whats going on in that area if ya know what i mean.
definatly, let him be.

Re: puberty/masterbation

As long as he's not doing it out in the open I would let him be. If he's careful enough to know it should be kept to himself, there shouldn't be a problem.

Re: puberty/masterbation

You will reeeeeallly embarass your son if you ask him this. So what if he is masturbating? Thats quite the human and normal thing to do. Let it be, dont even go there with him! He's not in pre school anymore.
