mom-in-law left 17 month alone - Parenting Issues Message Board

I have a 4 year old boy and a 17 month old boy. The little one is CRAZY busy and I have such a time keeping up with him. he can open doors, un-baby-proof anything and has never really walked-just runs. The 4 year old is good, but doesn't pay much attention to his little brother's whereabouts.

My mother-in-law wanted to come over on evening to play with them and my husband and I went to dinner. My neighbor told me my MIL came across the yard and asked him about a glass of wine that was sitting on our porch...she asked if it was mine...whatever...I guess I'm not able to have a glass of wine in my own home as a grown woman...but the point!!!! She left both boys alone in our house so she could gossip with our neighbor. I don't care if she told them I was a 10 dollar street walker...my little boys are way too little to be left alone in the house. Even if it was 5 minutes or so, the little one is just always into trouble. She has done this before and my 4year old fell off the porch.

Am I being too protective? I never leave them alone like that. Also, my 4 year old was so excited to see grandma and she told him she needed to talk with the neighbors and left him alone. Burns me up.

talk to her about it. and dont let her be alone with the kids, if she wants to come over and play with the kids, make sure one of u guys are there..

my nephew wwas like that, he was crazy.. we always had to stay close to him, to see if he is doin somethin wrong.. lol, we had those white door handle things, that kids/toddlers arent supposed to be able to open. first tiem we put it on, he opened the door anyways.. lol, it only somewhat worked on our front door, it onlymade Tyler concentrate on opening it.. he did it. but he did know he wasnt supposed to open it, so he never went out. lol, and he was also able to jump/hop/climb over the baby gates.. lol.

u are not being over protective!! they were left alone.. even if it was for a couple minutes..they are tooo young to be alone like that.

i my nephew is alone, it is for like 5/10 seconds, while i step one step out of the door (door is open, so i can hear him), and get the mail, thatis beside the door.
