He won't hold his cup. - Parenting Issues Message Board

My son is 16 mths old and he won't hold his cup. I have tried coaxing him by putting his hands over mine or mine over his. I've also tried leaving his cup on the floor hoping if he gets thirsty enuf he'll drink. He doesn't. I know he can b/c he'll pick it up to shake it...he just won't take a drink. Any suggestions???

Sounds like DS. Drove us nuts -- wouldn't hold his bottle, wouldn't hold his cup, wouldn't feed himself. Stopped by his daycare center one day and he was drinking his milk all by himself. The director just laughed, said months ago he grabbed a sippy cup away from another child and has been drinking by himself ever since. At home was a totally different story.

Don't worry, eventually he'll be carrying his juice boxs and sippy cups all over the house and you'll find them days later, smelling really nasty and you'll wish he'd never become so independent.

Have you tried other things to get him interrested. A cool water bottle (DS has one shaped like a lion) Or a cup with a crazy straw? Maybe that would help.

DS is crazy about spongebob and I got him a sippy with a straw at the discount store and now he always asks for his bobby cup. They've got all kinds of different cartoon character. Dora, Blues Clues...

I am going to get him a sippy with a straw and see if that will work. Thanks so much for your advice.
