Larger than life!

Hello all...

I have the happiest little boy on the planet...except there is no little about him. He is 9 months old, and already weighs 26 pounds. I haven't been worried in the least about him, but other people are always telling me how FAT he is. I on the other hand think he is adorable, and extremely healthy. Should I be worried at all?

Thanks!

Re: Larger than life!

I know how you feel, my sonis 3 1/2 months, and weighs 17 lbs, and I hear the same thing every day. I asked my doctor, and he told me he was the poster child for breastfeeding and health, so now I feel better. What does your doctor say, that is all that should matter. I know how hard it is to hear other people say it though. At first i was proud he was so big, now i'm just sick of hearing it!

Re: Larger than life!

I'm on the other end, my children are tall and very thin but healthy. The only concern I would have if I did see a heavy child is his health. I know you love your baby so much but you have to watch his weight because there are thousands of little one's that die of heart disease. It's the build up of fat around his little heart that you should be concerned about. Ask his pediatrician. There are a lot of things you can do for him like drink 1% milk and do not take him to fast food resturants. Cook alot of protein like chicken, fish, eggs. ( OF course when he's old enough) Sometimes babies are big and once they start to walk they grow longer and thin out a bit. IF someone gives you unwanted advice just say "see how good breast feeding is" or "we were trying for a line backer and got one!" When my mother says how thin my kids are I say "yea, I starve them" just because it's so ridiculous. My kids never stop eating, they just eat healthy. People lack tact. Good luck and kiss the little guy for me. MUAH

Re: Larger than life!

Hi,
My niece was a really big baby and now her baby brother is big too, he's 3 months. There father is 6'3 and really skinny. My niece is now 6 and she is tall for her age, but slim.
Of course I don't know what your little one looks like, but I doubt it is a over weight issue. I'm guessing he is just a big baby. My b/f friend's baby was big too and he is now about 2 and he isn't a fat toddler or anything. I can't believe someone would tell you your baby is fat. That is so rude. If your DR is saying he is healthy then I wouldn't worry I wouldn't recommened giving a baby 1% milk. I don't think babies under the age of 1 year are supposed to drink reduced fat milk. Babies need fat to help them grow.

Re: Larger than life!

Your baby is NOT fat, it is healthy!! I have 2 cousins with large babies. The one at 2.5 months weighed 17lbs and the other at 4 months was 20lbs. But my SIL was saying there was a little girl in her daycare with rolls of fat on her arms. Once babies like this start being more active with crawling and walking they will slim out.
