Question Can my baby have his fathers last name

I need to know if I can give my baby is fathers last name even if we are not married, I have heard that the law is not the same in all states, I heard in some states the father has to be there to sign a paternity paper, but in my case the father is unable to be with me at the time I deliver and I'm due in 24 days. I also heard in some states you can give the baby any last name you want even if its not yours or his. I'm living in Oklahoma and we both want the baby to have his last name & I dont know if Oklahoma laws or whatever will allow me to do that since the father cant be there. Any help and advice would be great since I am running out of time thank you

Re: Can my baby have his fathers last name

Actually a friend of mine who is from Oklahoma was able to give her son his fathers last name. They were not married at the time neither. Now, he was there to sign the birth certificate, so I don't know if that'll make a difference or not.

Re: Can my baby have his fathers last name

Try calling the hospital and asking. I live in Texas, but when I had my three children, each time there was someone who came into the room to discuss the birth certificate info with me. I was given the paper work when I arrived, but then there was someone who went over everything to make sure it was all correct before it was submitted. So, perhaps you could call and ask if there is someone in charge of doing the birth certificates...he or she would have to know the laws there since I'm sure others have asked your particular question.
