My dd will be 4 next month. We ust recently have her use toilet with special seat. She still has accidents once in a while and her night diaper always wet and/or poopey. Diaper for her always a signal to do in it.
Should we take night diaper off? If not now then when?
My dd would only poop in the night diaper at 3. We finally had to take it away so she would use the potty. Like the other poster said it is the only way of teaching them to control their urges at night.
I would suggest buying a rubber or plastic mattress cover that way if there is an accident it doesn't seep into the mattress. Also make sure you have a few sets of extra sheets readily available to change the bed in the middle of the night if need be.
You may have a couple of weeks of accidents until your daughter gets use to not having the security of the diaper. You may also find that she was just waiting for the diaper to do her business and will take to this with no major problems or headaches.
My daughter is older now. She was my first born - the "mom gaining experience child"! I had no idea what I was doing with potty training with her! Anyway, I didn't have the problem with bowel movements with her. Sounds like Happymom could be right, that you daughter is waiting for the diaper at night to do her business. My daughter had a very small bladder. When she would urinate on the toilet it would be a very small amount but it would come out with a lot of force, you know that sound that you get when your bladder is full. I had to take her pull-up off at 4 yr old at night because she was getting a rash on her skin from the urine in the diaper? Of course she wet the bed every night because her bladder was small and she was a deep sleeper so I started to wake up every night and put her on the toilet for 2 years because I was tired of washing her bedding every morning! After she turned 6 her bladder grew - when she would urinate on the toilet she peed a lot and it didn't have that sound of force, high pressure anymore. I can't believe that I did that for over two years!
My son is 7 and still wears a pull up at night. We've talked extensively with our pediatrician about it (he was fully potty trained at 2). Our pediatrician is the associate professor as well at a very highly regarded medical school at an Ivy League college.
He told us, simply...it's not harming him...he's a VERY sound sleeper...and his father, and his cousin both wet the bed....and it CAN be hereditary. So, it's wear a pull up, or deal with the mess...there is no training we can do, he does get up occasionally in the middle of the night to go potty, but other than that....he's got dry nights and wet ones.
I chose, pull ups over mess....not just for me, but I didn't want him sleeping in wet mess either :-)
When she has a potty she poo in the potty, but since we moved her to toilet she rather do it in pants or most of the time waiting until diaper time, then she immediately does it in diaper.
She may go to pee when she is in diaper but mostly won't but she definetly poo in diaper.
Looks like we have to take this diaper off and deal with it.
