Is it time to move to different car seat. My 4 year old is in the seat we bought her after she outgrew infant one. Belts seems getting small. I wonder if it is time to move to one which uses car belts.
If your child has outgrown the carseat then yes you need to move to another type. Booster seats should then be used. I know some recommend that kids use booster seats until they are 8 years old or 4'9'' tall.
I've talked to pediatritian. She has to be 40 lb to switch and she is only 29. I am very relactant to get another seat until she will be 40 lb. May be there are hybrid seats, which can be used before and after 40 lb.
Galinaqt, this is what we did. We bought a car seat that could be converted to a booster later. It seems that it is the straps that cannot hold greater than 40 lbs., not the seat.
EDDIE BAUER makes a good 3-n-1 that the kid can go in from 5-80lbs. VERY popular. there are two models, the higher-priced one comes with featurs like arm rests, etc. but is basically the same as the lower-priced one. (not too much price difference though). the locking system is different though, so maybe try your daughter in it and see which lock is most comfortable for you/her.when she reaches 40lbs, you take the harness system off the seat.
the booster seat is recommended for kids who are 40lbs and/or have reached the minimum height requirement. maybe your daughter is really tall? check your local laws to see what age/weight the child must be to be without a carseat. (in my area, its illegal if the child is not at least 80lbs, and there are some seats that go to 10lbs)
regardless, a convertible carseat is a good way to go.
