2 yr old thinks bugs in his bed- need advice

My two year old son has convinced himself at night that his crib has bugs in it, specifically on his toes. We have a clean house and we don't have any ants or anything like that. He just had a bad dream about bugs. I have talked to his daycare and they are not aware of any books, toys or happeings outside that would contribute to this. It started about three days ago. He woke up sweating and screaming about bugs getting his toes. Everynight, he wakes up now crying about bugs in his bed. I have tried everything, fake bug spray, cleaning his bed, changing his sheets, reading books about bugs, talking to him about it, going on a bug hunt in his room, watching bugs and making friends with bugs outside. We always end up with him in our bed. My son is a very active sleeper so I am not getting any sleep.

Any suggestions? How can I help him get over this dream of bugs?

You sound just like my mother! When I was a baby, around the same age as your son, I was terrified of bugs. I would scream that they were in my crib. My mom had to make sure that all of my blankets and sheets were completely bare. No pictures of anything on them. I don't know what sheets you use, but try not using any sheets with pictures or dots ect.. on them. I'll ask my mom about it and let you know if she did anything else! Good Luck!

I had one that did the same thing - nothing worked untill I left the "fake" bug spray in the crib, and let him spray wehn he felt the need - I used a water mister and made the lable look like a bug spray - he only used it for a short time

Declansmom- I wonder if his feet fell asleep one night, and gave him that crawley feeling on his feet? That would freak me out too if it had never happened before.......I would keep doing everything you're doing, it will eventually lose it's intensity. My son is now afraid of lawnmowers, this should be an exciting summer!

That's what I would try.

Re: 2 yr old thinks bugs in his bed- need advice

Dizzygirl,
I never thought of that. He does sleep so strange and all over the place. That would explain his crying too. I will make a bottle of bug spray and put it in his crib.

Last night he woke up again thinking there were bugs. I ended up rocking him until he gave up. So I will make bug spray.....
