my 2 yr old has started potty training-she now only wears diapers at bedtime-so my question is how do you handle taking her to a public bathroom-do you sit them directly on the seat-i can't imagine holding her up

When my kids were potty training and we were at a public restroom, I always carried one of those paper toilet seat covers in my diaper bag. In a pinch I would line the toilet with toilet paper.

hey Wattagirl, how are you ? Val always packed an emergency change of clothes for her girls when they potty trained and bought some toilet seat covers from cvs or online or used tons of t.p. to cover the seat. Another piece of advice , the handicapped toilets are better cuz it's a larger space and the kids can sit on the seat side ways and hold onto the railing. Whenever there's a space cut out at the front of the seat, her girls used to pee down their back of their pants, so she put them sideways and alls been fine ever since. Hope you are well and so is the rest of the july/august bunch.

This was one of the reasons that I dreaded potty training. I don't even like to use a public toilet myself, holding myself up 6 inches off the seat and touching NOTHING. I just couldn't imagine the horror of having to sit my little angel's bottom on a NASTY public toilet seat. But I have to do it sometimes, so I just use about 3 miles of toilet paper and construct an elaborate protective covering for the seat, and tell her to hold onto me instead of the seat like she does at home. It's traumatic for me (her using a public toilet), but a parent's gotta do what a parent's gotta do!!!

I personally never sit on public toilet seats and never let my children. All 5 children were "held above" toilet seat, even when I was pregnant and ready to domino! When they were much older I would put toilet paper on seats and then let them "stand" on seat with me holding them so they did not slip.
